Elections next week. Bleh. Why does it always feel -even with four parties- that there isn't one decent choice among them? *mutter mutter*

So... tired. Spent 5 hours last night getting my new wireless router set up, and made five tech support calls. Using a little data from each call, I finally figured it out myself. Then I stayed up till three thirty a.m. trying to make sure it was secure. Then I had to get up at 7 for classes, and to teach. so... freaking... exhausted. |

I guess this is a pre-vent.. I'm a bit worried about close-minded reactions from my parents' and perhaps also some friends' sides when I tell them about moving and travelling over Christmas.. Though I will understand mum if she freaks out.
Another vent: money.

Im of the opinion that Sweden is the most Overpoliticized country in the whole world - for the last 12 years Oldspapers, radio and tv have been nagging about the forthcoming election - the mere word makes me cringe - and then we have the one-item-at-a time mentality of the Establishment which I find even more annoying - Ive stopped reading the papers, listening to the radio and watching tv (that is the Swedish state-run tv and radio) - and don't get me started on the corps of the Journalists who have all graduated from the Communist High School (really called the Journalist High School). Im sick and tired of it all - Next to Cuba, North Korea and China Sweden comes a close fourth in the list of politicomaniacal countries. |

I can't remember my password for my account on the cell phone company website. I remember kind of how it went but I can't remember the last word of it. And I can't get it either because they want me to answer my security question. "Favourite pastime?" I remember I put something weird but I can't remember what. It's silly.

Well, we have elections in six months... and I think I'll never hear the end of it. stooopid politicians, even a hindi drama serial is less drama-queen than them.

Vent: I might have to work Saturday. My boss screwed up a while back, and now we all have to pay for his mistake, while he gets mad because it isn't happening fast enough. Nice.

*WARNING: Political rant ensuing, you may have more interesting things to read elsewhere. I have a bias against politicians and it shows.*
It's bad enough that there isn't even one election programme I completely or even half agree with. It's really rather worse that attempts at picking a marginally less than bad politician is only a smaller problem of the whole election. The big problem is gonna come when the votes get counted and OMG the Vlaams Belang party has won more voters again. Never mind they have been doing that the last few years, but you can reckon the self-named democratic parties are going to act all OGM!shocked and aghast because they really spent a lot of time bashing that party and their voters, and you'd think that ought to do the trick. Really, it's not like it's news that the Flemish like going for the underdog. And pretending that the one million people voted for the Vlaams Belang are intolerant and extreme right is really very childish. How old are you anyway? What do you hope to achieve by insulting one million voters exactly? Just because they didn't vote for you? Waawaa, cry me a river. I know the idea that people are tired of your less-than-perfect-rule is shocking, yes I know, but there you have it. Protest-votes may not always be a great idea but that doesn't mean they don't exist, smart-ass. Heck, you lot are the best advertising Vlaams Belang can ask for. Don't come complaining later. And really, knock it off with implicating that everybody who even marginally defends the Vlaams Belang are intolerant bastards. It's very stupid of you to think that fighting intolerance by being very intolerant to others is the right thing to do. Bloody idiots.

(Three-Day Late) Vent: I guess we all have those days we wish we had stayed in bed.
Monday was terrible. Among other things, I found my Pickett 80 Slide-rule broken. You know, the forty-some-odd-year-old antique my grandpa gave me? Snapped in half. No clue how it happened. I'm going to take the pieces and keep them on a stand sometime in the future. Like the shards of Narsil. Unfortunately, plastic can't just be put back together.

Jealousy. If you really love someone, how can you be jealous of this them? There are people in this world that I love more than myself: if good things happen to them, I'm happy for them. Even if these people wouldn't be in my life anymore, I'd be happy for them. I'd be happier that these things happen to them than I'd be if they'd happen to me, because I love them more than myself. Being jealous is nothing but selfishness: I do know we all are selfish, and need to be so in order to survive and get something done, but I wish there would be limits.. Jealousy never has any good consequences.
Hate. All the time I hear people saying that they 'hate' something. Do people realize what hate is? Do they know what an extreme, strong feeling hate is? I know it is a feeling that is real, and I know people feel it; but I believe the word is too swiftly used to describe disliking or something that just is uncomfortable. Personally, partially because of the exaggerated use of the word, I've stopped using it. Hate never has any good consequences. Selfishness. Yes, I know. We need to be selfish to survive, we need to be selfish to have a good life. Giving up everything for other people is not wise. But not even biologically/scientifically can it be justified to be completely selfish. We are social animals, and as in all social organisms, some level of self-sacrifice can actually increase our fitness (how much of us/our genes is passed on to the following generations). The only thing we own is ourselves. No one has the right to claim that they own another person; no one can stop another one from living their lives as they want. Jealousy is very close to selfishness: (paricularly) selfish persons are often jealous aswell. Ignorance. It's one thing not to have heard about something: it's another thing to not be willing to find out more about it. There is no chance that one person can know everything, so we're all ignorant. But choosing to stay ignorant is something I cannot understand. To learn is to develop, to learn is to live, to learn is to make progress, move onward. To ignore facts or choose not to find out, is to stop living, it's to stay where you are, in a small box, far from reality. Just because some facts are hard to take, we shouldn't ignore them: that never has any good consequences. Knowledge also involves to ability to be critical: to not just accept something that is told, no matter who tells it, but questioning. It also involves knowing the point where being critical crosses reasonable lines. We need to accept some "truths" to be able to move forward: like René Descartes accepted that he actually exists after pondering for some time. Before he was sure of that, he couldn't draw any other conclusions. Killing people because of their opinions. Not only people, and not just because of that reason. But this particular reason is exceptionally topical right now, after the killing of the Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya, who openly critizised Kremls actions in Chechnya. Link

Nel - those are excellent vents!!
TB - sorry about the slide rule - I have memories of my dad using his, and it would be a fun family memento. I like the Narsil idea! FrogGirl - Politics?!?!! *runs away screaming* and now my small little vent - I'm speaking to a group of 100 ladies tomorrow, and it's always very scary for me to speak ... and I don't even have my talk typed up yet! (But I pretty much know what I want to speak on.)

Anyone remember my vent about the gal at church who wouldn't talk to me and/or give my stuff back?
Well it still isn't solved! Reason I won't ask her: going to asking for my stuff back from seeing her every sunday, and ignoring her every sunday is quite a jump. She'll think that's all I care about.
