Do you think Charles Clarke paid his secretary to spill the beans about doing it in his office in Whitehall?

Tony Blair got screwed over by someone, represented here as a pink elephant with stubble? (If I was British, I'd probably get that. )

So, I noticed you guys are getting in trouble for bear-skin busbees. And no, the bear skins were not provided by Inuit people. Duh. I don't know who alleged that anyway.

Do you have to wear hats that take one entire bear skin to make? You guys don't even have bears. (Anymore. I don't think.)

Why not just fake fur it up? You'd take a lot less flak and royal guards would look just as good. I mean, we don't make beaver pelt top hats anymore, get with the program yo!

VERY IMPORTANT EDIT:

I think I confused a letter to the editor written by a member of PETA for an actual newspaper article, so what I've written above might in fact be completely incorrect, sensational bull-crap.

Apologies if the truth was harmed in the making of this post.

About Blair and Cameron...I've heard bits on NPR about it.

I was wondering why European countries have a PM and a President? Not that its illogical, it just confused me to find that Villepin was PM, though Chirac was President.
I'm assuming that the PM is the one who does all the traveling

Haha! No idea; not an issue here. I say fake 'em up too! Still I loathe the animal rights brigade so anything that annoys them has at least one thing to say in its favour.

Maybe they should make them out of mink: loads available from the thousands which have been released from farms by animal rights loonies only to totally mash the ecosystem by competing with native species.

The pink elephant is Charles Clarke, the (now former) Home Secretary whose department released a shed load of foreign criminals instead of deporting them back to Johnny foreigner-land.

This is the wrong thread, since the UK doesn't have a President But my guess is that it's to prevent one leader having too much power.

Hehe, absolutely. Maybe Australia can send you lots of rabbit pelts from the little feral pain in the butts for a nice mink/rabbit busbee.

Until I read that letter, I had no idea it was an issue either. So, erm, never mind.

In Germany one is the Head of State and the other is the Head of Government, I think. Maybe it's the same in France.

I think we should elect/appoint our own head of state, but that's for another thread. Most people in Canada aren't fussed about it because they don't mind having Queen Elizabeth as the Head of State. Hey, neither do I, I think she's great.

However, what about when Prince Charles eventually becomes King? Let's get our own Head of State now and be pro-active people!

Is this a big deal in Britain at all? Do you guys think, "Well, Queen Elizabeth is fine, but what about the inevitable day when it's King Charles? Aaaaaaugh!!"

What do you guys want to do? Or is it a non-issue?

Nurv, I was about to say our Queen is head of state. Rather her than Chirac

I think the royalty won't be challenged by the death of the Queen; even if Prince Charles is not so popular (I would't say 'unpopular' though), Prince William is young and eminently attractive to young ladies.

I discovered this today, btw, rather good I thought!

Non-issue for me. I'm pro-royalty, not especially pro-Royal Family; it's about the office, not the person who holds it.

Personally, I think Charles' biggest problem as king will be his name. I don't know what the Queen was thinking when she chose that name for her heir. I mean, Charles III? It's just asking for trouble! There's so many great royal names you could give your son if you had one eye to his future title (Alfred II being my particular favourite, though Henry IX would be cool too). But Charles?

King Jug Ears McLooney the First.

At least Charles III would ACTUALLY be the third king Charles of Great Britain; Elizabeth I wasn't, of course, Queen of Scotland which means that QE2 is actually QE1.

You guys have the Royals , which isnt TOO far.

Also, what exactly are the fears about Charles becoming King? Is he just not capable? Not handsome enough?

One of the secrets of the Queen's success is that she never expresses a political opinion in public. The monarch has to be apolitical, and the Queen understands that, but Prince Charles is often quite vocal about his political views, which could compromise his position when he becomes king. Also, many people still blame him for the breakup of his first marriage.

Hmm....And William is apolitical?
So if people want William as King, can they get him legally past Charles? Or is it just wishful thinking?

btw, did Tony Blair ever become Catholic? I heard he was going to...

William's never expressed any opinions, as far as I know - hopefully that doesn't mean he doesn't have any! I think Charles would have to abdicate for William to become king. But the Queen could live another twenty years, so it might not matter too much.

Good question about Tony Blair - I don't know, but I don't think so...

Another twenty years? I'm not so sure...

BTW, I really have to Applaud former President Gerald R. Ford for his long health...still with us!

The Queen was 80 a few weeks ago, and the Queen Mother lived to be 102

Bump bump!

Well, may I start by being overt with my position. I don't like the BBC. I think it is unnecessarily theatric, unintentionally insensitive, and incapable of recognising that possesses political views and bias. It is written by people who don't grasp the meaning of their language. It is in short childish.

Being of a conservative persuation, I find it annoyingly left-wing too, but again only in a childish unaware way.

Anywho: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5203450.stm

It just makes me wonder if there is another BBC broadcasting in the UK.
