I really need to find some works by spanish composers...but they're so rare (around here anyways).
I find it funny that most operas are set in spain, but hardly a famous opera has come out of spain .

Composer of the week is Wolfgang Korngold.

This is kind of random but all that talk of Spanish stuff reminded me of "Don Quixote, Man of la Mancha."

And I can't copy the cd to the computer. Drat. And I wanted y'all to hear my beautiful oboe solo.

My new oboe cd is coming in the mail soon. Yippee!

What other news have I, oh, there's a good book called "Who Needs Classical Music." Its really really good.

Anything else? I wish books had music built into them. That would be spiffy.

I got 3 new organ pieces at my lesson Friday and finished ...two Bach preludes, two Bach fugues, a Bach chorale prelude, a hymn, a Mendlessohn excerpt from an organ sonata...now working on Cesar Frank, another Bach chorale prelude, and a Joseph Paccabel (or wait...Johann...oh I forget which brother) cool Christmas prelude on a hymn by Luther.

And a drummer at school is not convinced that using your feet with organ is a million times harder then using your feet on drums. Hello--I'm playing an entire keyboard with my feet! Not just hitting a stationary object!

And while I'm at it, on oboe I'm getting a new excercise book, learning Handel Sonata #2, and...some other short random technical pieces. All-State and Gov. School stuff is over, no more E. Paladihle technically crazy music.

That was long, and rambling, and quite fun to write. Cheerio Amigos!

my day of muisc.

today i listened to the wagner's four hour opera "die meistersinger von nurnberg" (again). its quite the masterpiece.
hmmm....I decided to listen to some Bernstein, and "cool" from west side story is now stuck in my head .
I also listened to Berlioz's La Morte de Ophelie, which is in my opinion, the most beautiful chorale piece ever written.

My favourite piece of Elgar is the Cello Concerto. I have it in the version played by Jaqueline Du Pre and conducted by Barbirolli.

It is fantastical.

I like Johann Pachelbel, he was a German composer and organist. My two favorite pieces by him are Canon and Gigue.

Quite a mysterious composer, Pachelbel is. And talk about a lack of portraits of him! All I could find was a little cartoony sketch of him.
I do know that he was Bach's older brother's teacher.
And you must have a nice cd of his if you have something of his (Pachelbel's) thats not the canon in D

Okay Hector - this is what I forgot to tell you before. I'm determined to get you into my type of music and I know of a song that you may like. It's from one of my favorite bands The Dammed. On their album 'Grave Disorder' the last song 'Beauty of the Beast' has a classical piano intro that's good (okay it's not beethoven but I think it's good ). Anyway check it out if you can, also try listening to 'Absinthe' on the same album, one of my favourite songs.

I know your not. That's why I thought I'd try with this song. It's got touches of classical music after all.
