Erm, first one is General Douglas MacArthur, on being pulled from the phillipines, i believe.

Second one is Battle of Stalingrad? (I think)

Third was the american taking of Iwo jima by Us troops?

Thanks for the compliments! Yes I love history, and if people have died for you I think the least you can do is find out why. This is a fun thread by the way Grey Wolf.

Ok my efforts for the missing ones

The South Atlantic one is the Falkands War

African battlefield is El Alamein

And I hate to disagree, tlsp, but I'm going for Leningrad. I agree with Iwo Jima though!

"Surfs up"? I dont picture troopers pulling up from the water to Leningrad. Though Leningrad was tough too, no doubt.

Correct on all three (tlsp was correct in Battle of Stalingrad, though).

This remind me of Battlefield, the game. Very good, and really exiting. My favourite map was Iwo Jima, I remember.

...WWII European Surf's Up:

Quartet of armies are slowed by tenacious troops.

...WWII Pacific Surf's Up in multitudes:

Plenty of rock-skipping before final plunge.

...WWII European Surf's Up II:

From football to top of boot rather an easy push.

Huh? (twice over!) The Battle of Stalingrad lasted from summer 1942 to late winter 1943, about 6 months. When you said three years I thought you MUST be talking about the Siege of Leningrad which lasted '900 days' from 1941-1944. Ok not quite 3 years but much closer than 6 months!

Leningrad isn't Stalingrad. Leningrad is up by the Baltic and is now St Petersburg. Stalingrad is way inland on the Volga river and is (I think) now called Volgagrad.

Sorry. I was quite mistaken . You were correct all along. Sorry again. Won't be repeated.

Battle of the Bulge?

Is there something specific in 2, or is it the island-hopping campaign Mac engaged in in the Pacific?

The invasion of Italy, particularly the jump from Sicily to the mainland ("the soft underbelly of Europe")?

Well, actually I was referring to the entire Normandy Campaign which the Battle of the Bulge is part of. So in a way you were correct.

I was also referring to the entire island-hopping campaign of Mac from the beginning to the final shove onto Okinawa.

No 3 you are completely correct on.
