Have people made up enough words for elvish to be speakable? Tolkien's original vocabulary in the books is very limited.

I wish I remembered it. My Tengwar notebook suspiciously vanished. Maybe you had a point there, GW.

Surprisingly enough, tlkien made enough roots for people to start churning out words. Thats how a language is born. And yes, all my books mysteriously vanished too....

Time for a quick apres-dinner espresso. *presses a tiny cup of espresso at the machine, scoops tiny spoon of natural brown sugar in, swirls, slams* Mmmm. Nice. Ciao, all! Just popped into my boyfriend's office after dinner, to say hi and stuff but just my luck - everyone seems to have already gone 2 bed. Drat.

Hey, Lotesse, what do you think of the Fingon/Maedhros piccy I put on the Wraiths formal info thread? I really like that one for some reason, altho Fingon's chin is too long and his ears are too weird. But I love their expressions! Fingon rocks!!! Do you know that story?

Need heat NOW.
I think I am turning into an ice-cube.

*huddles in an overstuffed armchair clutching a mug of tea*

The temperature here decided to make a sudden drop to 'too near freezing for comfort'. Not happy.

Festival Planned for Lee Statue Unveiling

Bruce Lee is shown in this 1973 file handout photo. A weeklong festival will be held to celebrate the unveiling of a statue of Lee on Hong Kong's Avenue of Stars. October 25, 2005 8:36 AM EDT
HONG KONG - A weeklong festival will be held to celebrate the unveiling of a statue of Bruce Lee on Hong Kong's Avenue of Stars.

Lee's brother Robert Lee will preside over the Nov. 27 ceremony, Wong Yiu-keung, chairman of the Hong Kong-based Bruce Lee Club, said Monday.

The 6-foot-6-inch statue will feature the martial arts star with his torso bared and his hands spread in a fighting stance. The pose was selected in an online poll of Lee's fans.

Lee died of cerebral edema - swelling of the brain - on July 20, 1973. He was 32. His films include 1973's "Enter the Dragon," released after his death, and "Fists of Fury."

The Nov. 25-Dec. 1 festival, backed by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, also will include a fan gathering, tours of Lee-related sites and free showings of his movies at the Avenue of Stars, Hong Kong's equivalent of Hollywood's Walk of Fame, Wong said.

Lee would have been 65 on Nov. 27.

Hey, Pytt-at least Norwegians are honest.

First Swede Convicted of Online Piracy
October 25, 2005 11:36 AM EDT
STOCKHOLM, Sweden - A Swedish court on Tuesday handed down the country's first Internet piracy conviction, fining a man 16,000 kronor ($2,000) for using a file-sharing network to distribute a movie online.

The Vastmanland district court ruled that Andreas Bawer, 28, violated Swedish copyright laws by making a Swedish movie available for others to download.

The verdict was hailed by the entertainment industry as a first step toward stricter enforcement of copyright laws in Sweden, which has been criticized as a safe haven for online piracy. Up to 10 percent of all Swedes are estimated to freely swap music, movies and games on their computers.

File-sharing can be traced by tracking the Internet provider addresses of the computers that download or distribute the illegal file. However, Swedish police can only request Internet operators to reveal who owns a specific IP address if they are suspected of a crime that warrants a prison sentence, said Daniel Westman, who teaches information technology law at Stockholm University.

Still, the verdict is "a very big step forward," said Henrik Ponten, a spokesman for the lobbying group Antipiratbyran, or the anti-piracy agency, which represents the Swedish entertainment industry.

"This sends a very strong signal to file sharers," Ponten said. "Now we have taken the first step toward a functioning copyright law."

Torbjorn Persson, Bawer's lawyer, said the fine was too big for only uploading one movie.

"This happened on one occasion, and it was one movie," Persson said. "In light of that, this was very harsh."

He said the verdict may indicate that courts are willing to hand out prison sentences to people who distribute a large number of copyrighted files on their computers.

"I cannot interpret this in any other way," Persson said.

He said his client has not yet decided whether he will appeal.

Westman said it is still possible that a court would impose a prison sentence against someone who has distributed a large number of illegal files.

"This verdict is only for one movie, and he is very close to a prison sentence," Ponten said. "I would estimate that five to 10 movies would be enough to get prison."

The fact that this first verdict only led to fines means that the police can't take similar cases to court, so the verdict was in a way a victory to all Swedish file-sharers. But it's possible that this will go all the way up to supreme court so it's too early to say what the consequences will be.

With more than a million file-shares in Sweden, it will take a lot more than the threat of being fined to bring down online piracy.
