"Uhmmm" Mari interrupted the chattering. "Perhaps we should make ready for bed, so we can get going early tomorrow. Nautipus, you wanted to take the first watch, right? You can wake me whenever you want to be relieved. I don't mind when I have my watch."
With that she settled herself against Aeran as to go to sleep.

After seeing to Nestor, Sis curled up next to her own small fire. The smell of her drying boots next to the pine cone fire mercifully drowned out the assorted odors of fried varmint, leftover french fries and the sometimes underwashed questors. She wanted to think. There was something about this that really didn't seem quite right. She had journeyed in these woods often, and they were usually sparsely peopled. You might see the occasional elfin band, usually at a distance, and, whatever their policies du jour, they took only a small notice of inoffensive strangers. Most people didn't even know they were being observed. Yet, since they had embarked on this quest there had been almost a non-stop meet and greet.

When she had agreed to be abducted, here, she had considered it a fairly minor operation, although difficult. Any reasonable person would concede that turning Hector to stone might be a temptation. It hardly needed political motivation. Yet there were too many people in the woods. Too much impediment to their progress. Was it possible there was something important out here? Something they might stumble into? Or was it something about the quest itself?

And if someone objected to this journey, was there someone actually in the group aiding them?

Sis finally slept uneasily.

"I'll take the watch after you, Sas," Acally said, wondering where all the elves suddenly had appeared from. Anicetos hid behind her and peeked around her at Sas. "No, you silly racoon, he's not going to eat you," For some reason, he wasn't convinced. She set her sword and a knife on the ground next to her and settled in.

Sane grumbled, and with one glance put a crossbow bolt through the offending creature. "Not sure, but regardless, that should take care of it..." She then went back to adjusting her bandages and getting ready for sleep.

Sis continued to sleep uneasily. Bad dreams about the break-up of the quest and the untrustworthiness of elves made her restless, but she wasn't waking up until morning, which was still some hours off. She trusted the watch to protect them, and she had learned over many years of rough travel to get her sleep when she could.

Soon she slipped into more pleasant dreams.
