A mighty weapon, the wielder was willing,
had to be broken for unforeseen killing. Not very good, but I guess it'll keep you thinking. I hope you don't mind me posting here, not having answered a riddle for ages.

Oh - it's alright. We're very 'freeform' in this thread. Anyone is free to post a new riddle at any time, without having solved, etc. We can have multiple unsolved riddles on the floor at once.
Yours... I'd say maybe Merry's Barrow-knife that helped kill the Witch-King? (since his killing was not forseen) I was thinking Merry's knife evaporated rather than breaking, but I could be wrong. I should check.

You can let us take a few more cracks at it. My next guess would have been Narsil too, but I'll try to think of anything else that might apply.

Mean and mangled,
Vessel strangled- Procrastinated Found by fated, Wavey, wet lifeline- With a purpose divine. My name is: Okay. For a first one, I have NO CLUE how hard or easy this is.

I don't know either. No sure answer comes right to mind - which is good!
BTW - Noble Elf Lord - is Narsil the correct answer to yours?

Not Narsil. This is an older weapon.

Gandalf's body? lol. That's tough... maybe Gollum? He's mean and mangled, with a strangled tree trunk as his vessel down Anduin, he was procrastinated in his 500-year stay in the Misty Mountains. Dunno about the lifeline, but he was "meant" to ultimately destroy the Ring: divine purpose. Yeah right... Well, just a thought or two.

No, it doesn't HAVE to be the Army of the Dead, especially as that's not the answer I had in mind when I made it. Neither is it the One.
Did Turin's black sword break to kill Glaurung? If so, I don't remember the name of the sword... was it Gurthang? The Silmarillion was a bunch of pretty words which had really hard-to-remember meanings and references.

Midge, can you give us a hint, I'm begging,
Is your riddle's answer; person, place or thing?

Not Gurthang. But the timing is getting closer... And when I said "has to be" I was just kidding.

Oh. Haha. Oops.
*Tries to think of recent reading of Silmarillion and find stories where a weapon was broken*.... I wish my brain had a search mechanism... like I could type in something, a name or word or even an image or sound or smell, and it could just pop out all the times whatever it was had registered in my head. I'll get back to you on that broken weapon thing. *goes off to begin development of a MINDGoogle.*

Good luck with that. So your riddle's answer is a person...? This is getting difficult. Hmmm... (*searching.. searching.. no thoughts...*) Mîm? Gee, I'm racking my brain so hard, and can't think of anything... Oh bugger.
