Good God man! Be careful, you may end up losing precious braincells!

That sums up my feelings toward Twilight pretty well. Are you going to see the movie?

And, while we're on the subject, Glee. The show really is very adolescent, but in that good sort of way that makes you think, "Well, if I had a teenage kid, I'd like for them to watch this, but..."

Seriously, Hallelujah is one of the most beautiful, poignant songs written in the last half century. It's SO good.

So, the end of the book wasn't so bad. It was sort of exciting at the end where the one vampire guy was trying to track her down to eat her, and the little scene in the ballet-studio was kind of neat. But yeah... I am for sure not the intended audience.

Honestly I feel like I can't "fault" the book as a book... it's not poorly written, everything flows pretty nicely, and if I were a teenage girl I would probably totally dig it. As a 21 year-old man, not so much.

I don't think I'd want my kids reading it though... I was, and still am, kind of disturbed by how ready the girl is to just completely shove her parents out of her life so that she can shack up with this vampire that she met just a month or two before. I mean geeze... The situation where she lied to them to save their lives was 'brave', but at the end of the book she talks about completely abandoning them. Not so okay IMO.

I have a dear friend whose fiancee made him read it. The fellow kept on trying to defend Twilight as a decent book, but then someone actually took him at his word, and said, "Maybe I should pick it up." My friend at this point gave up the charade and just said, "Don't."

I feel torn. I feel like Stephenie M. is a very good writer (I thought the dialogue was pretty okay, the story flowed smoothly, the book was well paced, etc... basically everything you need for some light, fun reading) or has a very good editor, and if she had been marketing another storyline to a different age group...

Eh. Maybe I'll just stick with, "Good writer, terrible idea, worse book."

Yeah, the values and behaviors of the characters aren't really something I would want my children copying... I would let them read it but I wouldn't encourage it. The whole thing with the true love and I love you forever even though we just met is overly romantic and something young people can fall for. It's probably better not to encourage that... have them read some books about disillusionment and learning from your mistakes alongside it.

I'm glad you aren't my mother.

Seriously, though, I think it can be good for young people to be caught up in overpowering romance; I actually kind of miss that that was never part of my life.

It just shouldn't be with someone who sparkles.

I dare you to take a long, passionate look at a fine glass of wine and then tell me again that your true love doesn't sparkle, Gwai.

Lucky for you I don't plan on being one! Yeah, I would let them read it but I'd be nervous if they started acting like Bella in real life. It runs in my family.

Hey!

More great music from L'ame Immortelle:

I see that had it not been for GW, I may have been the Minister for Minstrelry or whatchama-call-it. No envy, no, not at all. Just "iffing".

EDIT: Oh katya, I think you once mentioned having drunk liquorice tea. I found some! Gonna try it soon.

Buddy, as a suggestion to the President, my dear Acally, you can be Deputy Minister of Minstrelry. I will sometime be away on State Forum Visits, and will need a stand-in for such occasions. Hope that will be acceptable to you.

(Isn't that officially up to President Acalewia to decide? )

Romeo and Juliet, anyone?
With those, I keep thinking that someone like August Strindberg or Ingmar Bergman should make an AU story about how they have survived, and show them twentyfive years later

Will there be a Twilight 'twentyfive years later' version?

I have added a sentence that might stave off the rightous anger of a President at her minister overstepping his bounds.

Had a great party last night ^_^
I discovered that my cousin actually can talk to people who are not his parents or sister! Strategy for next time: don't let him near them.

Hmm, probably wasn't me. I really don't like licorice. I do like tea though.

I have a friend who occasionally drinks rose tea; it's actually tasty, but the most exotic I get on a regular basis is jasmine green. I've just finished a box of blackcurrant tea, though, which was v. good.

I usually just drink plain old green tea, because it's so good for you. But my favorite is Earl Grey. Sometimes I like the fruity teas, especially raspberry. My other favorite is Celestial Seasonings "Tension Tamer". It has catnip in it. It's one of the teas I drank when I first started drinking tea (maybe 7th grade) and so it's a nostalgic taste. Vanilla tea can be good also. I never really liked jasmine though- I'll only drink it occasionally at Chinese restaurant.
