OK. I take back my answer as for some reason I answered a question set a while ago. I hate it when that happens....

Durin's day was the first day of the dwarf year, but can't remember the actual date. Which calendar do you want it in?

Well, the dwarf calendar I guess. I'm not looking for a numerical date, just a description!

Oh yes! Very right indeed, the first day of the Dwarves New Year. (sorry!) The description is given by Thorin, when Elrond is reading the silver moonletters on midsummers eve, from Thorins map.

"The first day of the last moon of Autumn, on the threshold of Winter. It is called Durin's Day when the last moon of Autumn and the sun are in the sky together." (Durin's Day should be coming up soon here! )

Okay then. Let's try this....

How high and how far did Bilbo have to jump to get past Gollum in Goblin-town?

I heard this on the tape of the Hobbit and hadn't noticed it in the books, but I don't think they'd have made it up.

Bilbo jumped seven feet forward, and three in the air!

Indeed he did. Quite a respectable distance for a hobbit.

Okay, your turn.

I'm not sure if this has been done before...if it has, some one else can post a question:

[Edit: perhaps I should rephrase the question]

Upon first meeting, Gloin the dwarf said Bilbo looked more like a ______ than a hobbit.
