Inspired by Easter celebrations at my undergraduate college.

Easter Vigil starts at 11, runs till 2. When it is over, we all went to the Commons, where there was a massive feast of a spread that had been in the works for the past several days. The whole campus then proceeds to stuff themselves.

Afterwards, those of us who were so inclined would hike out to the drinking spot, heavily laden with bottles, and drink away the night, until the dawn came, when bubbly and mimosas would be raised with the cry "Christ is risen!"

It was a beautiful tradition, and I'd love to have something similar going on.

Today I used my new 'sonic' toothbrush for the first time and my mouth really DOES feel 'dentist clean'. O_o Man I wish I'd gotten this thing months ago!!!

Plus the vibrations in my head feel kinda crazy cool.

I'm so happy I bought it! Hopefully this will mean no more cavities.

I'm also going to the dentist soon (which will probably not be pleasant, but I'm glad I'm gonna do it), and then I'm going to the orthodontist to get new retainers. It's a good month to be my teeth.

i'm back in finland for one day - i came back from norwich yesterday night and i'm leaving to morocco tomorrow morning. it's a quick visit, but it was a good one - i had lunch with one of my favourite people, the sun was shining and i had a nice, long sauna.

now i look forward to my field work that starts in june.. sun, sauna and islands. but first i'll enjoy morocco for 3 weeks - and since i just finished writing my thesis i can actually have a vacation! 8D

lots of stuff to be happy about..

I GOT A 'B' IN ACCOUNTING! WOOHOOO!!!

I could not be happier!!!

I got a 91 on the final... which I'm not sure if that's an unedited score or not, but I'll take it. I don't think she's allowed to curve the individual grades (because all the sections are taking the same exams), just the overall grade.

wow, that took a while: sadomasochism, fetishism and transvestism are no longer classified as diseases in finland.

Yes, nothing like scheduling a world championship for the one time of the year when you can guarantee the best players in the world won't be there.

Congratz anyway

i've been putting this off for soooooo long because i thought it'd be a painful experience (or at least a lot of headache) - deciding what to do in the future.

the natural, go-with-the-flow alternative would be to pursue a phd in biology. i basically have a position already in the same group i did my master's in. i do love the group and i really enjoy the research, too, which speaks for this alternative. i don't think i want to continue in academia after that, though; so working for very little money for 4-5 years seems a bit silly. additionally, we want to leave finland as soon as possible and sedeer should finish his phd in 2-3 years, and doing the phd would sort of feel like just going with the flow (like i've done most of my life).

one day, some weeks after sedeer asked me what i'd really like to do with my life, i realized that a dream i've had for a while but never wanted to think through because of weird fears and unbelief in dreams, is to be a wildlife guide/nature photographer. imagine to be able to walk through the wilderness, enjoy the vastness, and just take photos. and even as a pretty asocial person, i'd really like taking small groups of people out with me, teach them about photography or just do photography with them.
the problem with dreams is that they might not work out. but better to try it out and fail than to always think that's something i should've done, right?

so this discussion about the future (the day before the world apparently is going to end) wasn't at all bad. it was inspiring and exciting. now i'm looking into doing a 2-year nature photography education starting next year. before that, i could finish my wildlifing courses, work and try to build a network.

of course, this might all fail miserably, and then i'll have to start doing something else. but right now, this seems like a risky but great idea. i'll still think about it before making any actual decisions (like telling my supervisor that i won't apply to the graduate school after all), but at least now, the thought processes have started, and i might actually start doing something at some point.

yay! 8D
