Just saw The Golden Compass and I have to say it was great! The audiance was enjoying it and this was the first movie I'd been in where the audiance was cutting up and cheering. And the fight between Iorok and Iufor (sp?) doesn't disappoint. The ending was the only disappointment.

Really? So you recommend it? The Dutch critics were... well... very critical in a non-positive way.
( I want to see it anyway, but I have to get my sister to come with me somehow. Just me paying for the ticket doesn't seem to do the trick)

I am Legend. Very dumb. Just a hyped-up zombie movie, really.

Just saw Phantom of the Opera (2004)... the story was... weird at times. I was very glad with the soprano though: I could listen to it without getting my ears hurt. Usually when it gets high my ears start hurting.
Intriguing music, I must say.

just saw "transamerica" last night. it was really very good! but it's one of those movies where you'll only like it if you like the independent-y-ish type films. but it was very real, and sad at times; it really made you think about complications in a transexual's life that you never would have considered before. (yeah, i know- that sentence sounded rather...odd. but so's the movie.)

definitely see it!

"I am Legend".

Agreed with what about 90% of the reviewers said; the first two-thirds are very good with the mood-setting and the suspense, and then it totally falls apart in the conclusion, which is really, really bad. The evil creatures are horrible, and I don't mean that in a good way.

Have to agree, I liked it. Major complaint- too short. I imagine if you hadn't read the book you'd be somewhat lost.

That movie is difficult for me to watch . From a viewer perspective, I love it--love the singing, the sets, the story...

From a technical, musician standpoint I think it's absolutely horrific . Emmy Rossem does NOT have the voice for that kind of repertoire. As I recall, she didn't even hit the actual high note as written.

... BUT I LOVE THAT MOVIE SO MUCH.

Very glad she couldn't sing it Would have done irrepairable damage to my ears
Seriously, I don't understand how you people can listen to those high voices without getting bleeding ears...

I saw The Golden Compass, too, and I liked it. I really hope they'll make the second and third part as well..

The Adventures of Huck Finn. Elijah Wood actually has good acting in this movie! In addition to very pinchable cheeks...

The Christmas holidays usually has re-runs from old 'classic' films they seldom give the rest of the year so I've been watching a lot lately. Finally saw The Sound of Music (singing nuns, now I've seen it all) Casablanca (a good deal of movie quotes got explained), Key Largo, The Blob (hi-la-rious), The Great Escape (doesn't end quite as well as I had thought) and The Von Ryan Express. Not a bad catch, pity the holidays are over again.

Ah, I loved The Great Escape...sadly, the ending is very true to the actual story.

EDIT: Okay, so I just finished watching The Sting. Whoa, that was one good plot! The end...haha, totally caught me off-guard. It was good. Actually...
the twist ending reminded me a lot of The Prestige, how the guy pulled off the ultimate con.

That movie drove me nuts. No, not the movie, just Richard Attenborough. He's a horrible actor! He's supposed to be this mastermind prison-camp escape-artist, and yet he walks around looking over his should in the most suspicious manner possible!

Last weekend I went and saw Sweeny Todd in theaters. It's really a shame that they cast a lot of people who are very good at some things, to do a musical. Most of the great actors, Jonny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, aren't really singers.
It was interesting but it REALLY makes me want to see the broadway version With Len Cariou doing Sweeny. (the recording, Never saw it live)
