Everyone say a prayer or send some good vibes in my dad's direction. He is extending his job search to cities outside of where we live right now, and we're hopeful that he's going to find something very quickly.

There is potential right now for kind of a weird situation, but it would probably be for the best. Most likely my dad will (we HOPE) find a job in another city (about three hours away) and will move to a 1 bedroom apartment there, and my mom and I will move into a two-bedroom here till summer while she finishes her first year of law school... then she'll try to transfer to a school in the city where my dad is (... hopefully...) going to find a job and I'll stay in our current city in my own little apartment till I graduate.

I am very excited about a few potential things:

1. My dad is hopefully going to find a job now (lots of prospects in the cities he's considering)
2. If it's just my mom and I in an apartment, it is going to be a LOT easier to eat healthy food (my dad buys most of the junk food)
3. There is real potential for me to be living by myself by next summer... which would be SO EXCITING. O_o

Unfortunately this means I'm canceling my plans to build a desktop... If we're looking at moving into a little apartment soon, I don't want to waste space on a desktop.

On the other downside, moving to an apartment probably means getting rid of the piano. We've had it for at least 12 years... it's been a huge part of my life. It's not a fancy piano, but I've been playing on it forever.

... but seriously, say a prayer/send vibes for my dad to find a job. I believe it's headed towards five or more months since he was laid off.

No chance to stash it in the meantime in storage or with family?

Good vibes sent across the pond.

Definitely, Tessar!

And with the vast amount of free time you have - NOT! - well, try to find a home for the piano somewhere - with one of your students, with the school, ask some music teachers, etc. etc. I'm sure they would understand with this economy, and if you put it like "hey, here is an opportunity for someone to have a piano rent-free for a period of time so they can practice at home!" maybe that will help. I'd say if you do that, then say they can have it for periods of 6 months - something really stable and attractive. You don't want them thinking "when is this piano gonna disappear?"

Best wishes and prayers! That must be terribly hard on your dad

So this girl that I've known for about a year and a half now (a fellow singer) who's been snotty, rude, clingy, depressing, etc... apparently really likes me because through it all I've refused to bend to her will, do things for her, and I constantly poke fun at her.

I only found out because she was talking about a guy she's started dating, and she told me she's getting annoyed because he texts her every day saying really sweet things like, "Thinking of you, hope you're doing great," and how she's thinking of breaking up with him.

I gave her the, "You're kidding me, right?" look and she said, "I just want him to man up and be mean to me. That's why I like you." She was specifically referring to how that morning she had ordered me to go get her a bagel and I told her to get one herself. Then I licked my bagel and took a bite out of it in front of her and started talking about how tasty my bagel was.

...... People are so weird. I've known guys who do the same things with girls... they want a girl who's going to boss them around, and if they find a genuinely sweet girl who doesn't want to change them they move on.

Well, it's not that weird if you ask me. I'm a rather bossy person myself, but I hate it when I waltz over people, even if they gladly let me. So in a partner, no matter how sweet, I'd rather feel equal and like I don't have to watch my step every time so I don't waltz right over him.

I think what I might do for my little folk music group, which fell apart pretty quickly (grrrr... busy!), is try to put together a couple of arrangements and just try to do a "recording session" style thing.

I can send people the arrangement, ask them to take a look at their part, then we find a weekend to get together and we all play/record it. It could be a lot of fun, and I think more likely to yield results than forming an amorphous group for the purpose of "finding places to play, eventually."

Also I'm going to start -way- simple with the arrangements. I think I might start with the traditional carol, "In The Bleak Midwinter," and just make some slight modifications to the hymn arrangement. My arranging skills are not that well formed, and I need to start simpler than I was trying to before.

I think it might be a nice arrangement... baritone voice, alto voice, possibly soprano voice, piano, violin, guitar, and maybe some harp arpeggios? In The Bleak Midwinter is such a melancholy, mellow sounding song that I think it will suit the lower voices well.

Off of the new Nigtwish album - does anyone know what this means?

"Gar tuht river Ger te rheged"

It's from the lovely song "The Crow, The Owl And The Dove". <3

My brother had a girl just like that, Tessar. He was attentive and loving, and would give her gifts for no reason at all and she broke up with him because "he was too nice". What was funny was that she was so frustrating to him, but he would get over it because he loved her.

What can you do?

Well, as I said, if you need a counterweight in your life it really doesn't matter how nice someone is.
If someone lets me walk over him, it will make me feel bad even if he doesn't care a bit and I'll try to be careful and in the end I will feel I can't really be my whole self because I have to restrain myself all the time. Love can end relationships just as much as any other emotion can.

I see what you mean, and honestly I've had something of the same problem myself before. The problem wasn't that the person was too nice, it was that they were too clingy. Someone who is wanting to be in almost constant contact is too much for me.

"...they were too clingy..." Wonder if clingy people ever find another like themselves? But one might not know, since then they wouldn't complain...
