Other hints then:
The other half of the compound word... like I said, it has to do with water, and these are generally named. The speaker is riding a horse. That's pretty clear. But it is significant. And... it's a significant horse!

Yes, Eorl was the speaker. Felarof was the name of his horse ( I think).

And you said something about waters usually being named. Perhaps the first part is the name of a river or a lake or even some marshes ... Still stumped for the actual word/name, though.
