Um...do you know what Samwise means?

The perfect name for the son of a halfwit then, eh Gwaimir?

Incidentally I think Laurelin or Laurelyn is an acceptable modern earth name. I've heard it used at least twice before.

I wouldnt name my children after a character. To tell the truth, I really dont like the way they sound or the meanings. I also have no favorite character. If i construct a name based on meaning and put it into Quenya, it never sounds good. Plus, lotr is just a fad. I am very picky when it comes to names. Im not against totally making up names based on nothing. I like these "made-up" names: Kareva, Anaies.

LOTR itself is not just a fad. The movies are, to an extent. The books, however, are not. Nearly fifty years since they've been published, and still going strong.

Goodness me, no! As sween said: If my child is nothing like me, I'll die a happy man

I was working today and I could have sworn that I heard this mother call her son by the name, "Balin."

I have nicknames for a few people in my life....my fiance is Feanor and when I have kids my first born son will be Maedhros Of course we all know that I am going to name my daughter Arien (for obvious reasons!) I suppose my nick name is Nerdanel only beacuse she is Feanors wife...lucky girl

Tom Bombadil

That would be great if everybody had a LotR name. But realistically I could name my kid Tom after Tom Bombadil. I already call my little brother Pippin, as he's an annoying little imp who'd be the most likely to knock a rock into a well accidentally while prancing around like an idiot.

But I firmly believe that within 20 years, Frodo or Bilbo will be added to most baby name dictionaries.

As my children all will have non-german names, it will hardly be a difference to name them after a Tolkien character.
I mean Majandra is strange enough. The name Lalaith fits to it perfectly fine.

You could probably get away with a few Rohannish names, as their language is modelled the most closely after a real language. (even though I think it's extinct in common speech)

He might not have meant you specifically, Lalaith, but 'you' generally. And even if he did, I don't think he meant to offend you.
