How about Oin? Wasn't he killed by the "watcher in the water?"

Btw, do these riddles apply strictly to LotRs, or can they come from the Sil, Unfinished Tales, etc?

Oin is a good guess Sister Golden Hair. In fact Oin is exactly right! Thank you for guessing at my riddle. As for the sources, all books are acceptable to us as Radagast has said. I almost always use the Hobbit or LOTR as my sources. More people are familiar with those.

Radgast, I could see the light bulb flashing above your head all the way from here! Thanks for participating! You are a good sport!

I will have another riddle for y'all soon.

I'll take a shot at a riddle.

A princess fair I was of old
My fate a mortal man did hold
whom I loved, but loved me not
my death a failed rescue brought

I think you're talking about that elven gal from Nagothrond that fell in love with Turin, though I cant remember her name.

Bravo Beor. Yes, and her name was Finduilas.

I really liked your riddle Sister Golden Hair. Nice poem! Here's my next submission...

Find the Connection

What is the relationship between these things:
Two sacks of potatoes
One new spade
A woolen waistcoat
A bottle of ointment

Welcome to Entmoot Beor! And especially a welcome from the folks in the riddling thread! Come on in anytime.

They were the gifts given to the Gaffer by Bilbo before he left the Shire in 3001.

Who was that guy?

The Southern Hornblower was eastward bound.
In search of that which (when was found),

would satisfy his curious craving,
send Dwarves and Men and Wizards praising
(His Southern Star was well worth raising).

The Southern Hornblower achieved great fame,
now garden plants shall bear his name.

a new riddle:

A local legend in his time.
The folk all thought he'd lost his mind.
They called him "mad" and said he'd "cracked".
He never changed, but he did come back.

SGH, you are correct. Bilbo is the answer.
Also, I updated my e-mail address and now I cannot post in any of the forums. I have mailed this problem to bmilder but am still waiting to be reactivated. Can you help me with this at all in your role as administrator? In the meantime, I will be known as Keith Kay.

Valandil, thank you for your compliment. I will have a new riddle coming soon.

a new riddle...

We were eagerly awaited and long looked for.
When we arrived we were answered and sent out the door.
Our numbers were many, we caused quite a fuss,
and we overwhelmed all who were dealing with us.

editors note: not one of my best but y'all should handle it ok.

(as I transform from an Enting to an Elven Warrior!)

Uh... Eggs? Time? A piece of string?

Is it the dead that Aragorn led out of the Paths of the Dead?
