Oh, that's too bad about the steroids but I suppose it's no surprise now. That wasn't the case when I was showing - but that was 30 years ago! The horses we showed in halter were the same ones we saddled up a few classes later and showed in pleasure and equitation and obedience. I guess they're "specializing" now.

BTW, are there still bareback classes? I used to do well in those.

I won grand-champion gelding at the local 4-H show with my first horse though and they gave me this big fancy ribbon and even though I have won bigger stuff since then I am stil proud of that.
Yes, some ribbons are just special, aren't they?!

My favorite ribbon was the one I never got - I just missed placing in a very tough obedience class. I was riding my lovely, fiery gelding (he never quite realized he got gelded! or maybe they just missed something!) who I had trained myself and was very new to showing. We were in a large class and it had been eliminated down to 7 horses/riders, and there were 6 ribbons. They called a counter-canter RIGHT when I was on the tight inside turn (a smallish ring) I should have cut the corner off and cued him to a counter-canter, or waited just a few more seconds, but I didn't, and he took the correct lead and was eliminated It was totally my fault (in combination with the bad luck of being on the curve) because he knew how to counter-canter I just rode out of the ring and dismounted and held him around his neck and cried and told him I was sorry because I knew he could do it (you realize horses understand what we say, right? ) Anyway, that was my favorite memory of a class, because he was against all these very experienced horses and was still green-broke, and did GREAT!

Quote:
That would be cool if you daughter showed horses! I didn't like them until I was eight, even though we always had them. Then I decided I loved them, and the whole quarter-horse-showing-big-time mess started. Now it is like all we do. We have shows the next - uh- five weekends, because my mom is getting qualified from World so is our trainer on her horse, becuase he hopes to get in the finals on him. We have only had the horse for a month and a half, and the trainers for five months, and now I have to get qualified, my mom has to finish qualifying, and our trainer has to get another 17 points. He has been getting them a lot at a time but still... I will be quiet now.
Ah, no need to get quiet, I love hearing it! I sure hope I can start my daughter soon - there was a perfect place to start her back in California, then we moved to Arizona ...

A Home schooler laments.

Has anyone ever showed you the home school hi five?

Going to college was the best thing ever for me cause now I can make that joke to home schoolers and watch em turn red.
