You were all thinking about a standard consonant for the first letter, then getting the whole sounding of the word completely wrong. "Y" is a funny letter - sort of a vowel, often functioning as a vowel, but in some words functioning more like a consonant ...
(When I learned phonetics, they named it a "half-vowel".)

But with that hint, the quote is finally solved!
