Really? That's awesome. I want to go to Ireland someday.

Boy in the Bubble Paul Simon

It was a slow day
The sun was beating on the soldiers by the side of the road
There was a bright light
A shattering of shop-windows
The bomb in the baby carriage was wired to the radio

These are the days of miracle and wonder
This is a long-distance call
They was the camera follows us in slow mo
The way we look to us all
The way we look to a distant constellation that is dying in the corner of the sky
These are the days of miracle and wonder and don't cry, baby, don't cry, don't cry

There was a dry wind
And it swept across the desert and it curled into the circle of birth
And the dead sand
Falling on the children
And mothers and the fathers and the automatic earth

These are the days of miracle and wonder
This is a long-distance call
They was the camera follows us in slow mo
The way we look to us all
The way we look to a distant constellation that is dying in the corner of the sky
These are the days of miracle and wonder and don't cry, baby, don't cry, don't cry

It's a turn-around-jump shot
It's everybody's jump-start
It's every generation throws a hero up the pop-charts
Well medicine is magical and magical is art
You know the boy in the bubble and the baby with the baboon heart

And I believe
These are the days of lasers in the jungle
Lasers in the jungle somwhere
Stuccato signals of constant information
A loose affiliation
Of millionaires and billionaires and baby

These are the days of miracle and wonder
This is a long distance call
They was the camera follows us in slow mo
The way we look to us all
The way we look to a distant constellation that is dying in the corner of the sky
These are the days of miracle and wonder and don't cry, baby, don't cry, don't cry, don't cry!

Another year's gone by, and I was thinking once again,
How can I take this losing hand and somehow win?

Just give me One Good Year To get my feet back on the ground.
I've been chasing grace; Grace ain't so easily found
One bad hand can devil a man, chase him and carry him down.
I've got to get out of here, just give me One Good Year!

The Sound of Silence ~ Paul Simon

Hello darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence.

"Fools" said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls."
And whisper'd in the sounds of silence.

Proud by Heather Small
i liked this first time around, and now she's re-released it, I will go buy it

I look into the window of my mind
Reflections of the fears I know I've left behind
I step out of the ordinary
I can feel my soul ascending
I am on my way
Can't stop me now
And you can do the same

What have you done today to make you feel proud?
It's never too late to try
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
You could be so many people
If you make that break for freedom
What have you done today to make you feel proud?

Still so many answers I don't know
Realise that to question is how we grow
So I step out of the ordinary
I can feel my soul ascending
I am on my way
Can't stop me now
And you can do the same

What have you done today to make you feel proud?
It's never too late to try
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
You could be so many people
If you make that break for freedom
What have you done today to make you feel proud?

We need a change
Do it today
I can feel my spirit rising
We need a change
So do it today
'Cause I can see a clear horizon

What have you done today to make you feel proud?
So what have you done today to make you feel proud?
'Cause you could be so many people
If you make that break for freedom
So what have you done today to make you feel proud?
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
What have you done today
You could be so many people?
Just make that break for freedom
So what have you done today to make you feel proud?

Pretty Things

This song really makes me love Rufus Wainwright's newest cd. I mean, I really identify with the lyrics...in a way that's difficult to explain.

Pretty things, so what if I like pretty things?
Pretty lies, so what if I like pretty lies?
From where you are, to where I am now,
I need these pretty things.

Surround the planets of my face,
Everything's a sign of my astrology,
From where you are to where I am now,
Is it some galaxy?

Be a star, and fall down somewhere next to me
And make it past your color TV.
This time will pass, and with it will me,
And all these pretty things.

Dont say that you don't notice them.

Without you im nothing - PLACEBO
Strange infatuation seems to grace the evening tide
I'll take it by your side
Such imagination seems to help the feeling slide
I'll take it by your side
Instant correlation sucks and breeds a pack of lies
I'll take it by your side
Oversaturation curls the skin and tans the hide
I'll take it by your side

tick, tock. tick, tock. tick, tock.
tick, tick. tick. tick. tick, tock.

tick.
I'm unclean, a libertine
And every time you vent your spleen
I seem to lose the power of speech
Your slipping slowly from my reach
You grow me like an evergreen
You never see the lonely me,
at all

I...
Take the plan, spin it sideways
I...
Fall
Without you, I'm Nothing
Without you, I'm nothing
Without you, I'm nothing
Take the plan, spin it sideways
Without you, I'm nothing at all

if so, i'd be pretty skeptical of that list

this thread could be all paul simon

Train in the Distance ~ Paul Simon

She was beautiful as Southern skies
The night he met her
She was married to someone
He was doggedly determined that he would get her
He was old, he was young
From time to time he'd tip his heart
But each time she withdrew
Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance
Everybody thinks it's true
Well eventually the boy and the girl get married
Sure enough they have a son
And though they both were occupied
With the child she carried
Disagreements had begun
And in a while they fell apart
It wasn't hard to do
Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance
Everybody thinks it's true
Two disappointed believers
Two people playing the game
Negotiations and love songs
Are often mistaken for one and the same
Now the man and the woman
Remain in contact
Let us say it's for the child
With disagreements about the meaning
Of a marriage contract
Conversations hard and wild
But from time to time
He makes her laugh
She cooks a meal or two
Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance
Everybody thinks it's true
Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance
Everybody thinks it's true
What is the point of this story
What information pertains
The thought that life could be better
Is woven indelibly
Into our hearts
And our brains

Instant Karma ~ John Lennon

Instant karma’s gonna get you
Gonna knock you right on the head
You better get yourself together
Pretty soon you’re gonna be dead
What in the world you thinking of
Laughing in the face of love
What on earth you tryin’ to do
It’s up to you, yeah you

Instant karma’s gonna get you
Gonna look you right in the face
Better get yourself together darlin’
Join the human race
How in the world you gonna see
Laughin’ at fools like me
Who in the hell d’you think you are
A super star
Well, right you are

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Ev’ryone come on

Instant karma’s gonna get you
Gonna knock you off your feet
Better recognize your brothers
Ev’ryone you meet
Why in the world are we here
Surely not to live in pain and fear
Why on earth are you there
When you’re ev’rywhere
Come and get your share

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
Come on and on and on on on
Yeah yeah, alright, uh huh, ah

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
On and on and on on and on

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun

The Suffolk Miracle, as sung by Jim Moray:

A wealthy squire lived in our town
He was a man of high renown
He had one daughter, a beauty bright
And the name he gave her was his Heart's Delight

Many young men to court her came
But none of them could her favour gain
Till there came one of low degree
And above them all, why, she'd fancy he

But when her father he came to know
That his lovely daughter loved this young man so
Over fifty miles he sent her away
All to deprive her of her wedding day

One night as she lay in her bedroom
Her love appeared from out the gloom
He kissed her cheek and this did say
“Arise my darling and come away”

'Twas with this young man she got on behind
And they rode faster than any wind
They rode on for an hour or more
Till he cries, “My darling, my head feels sore!”

A holland handkerchief she's then pulled out
And with it tied his aching head about
She's kissed him close and this did say
“My love, you're colder than any clay”

When they came to her father's gate
He said, “Get down, love, for the hour is late!
Get down, get down, love, and go to bed
And I'll see this gallant horse is groomed and fed”

And when she's come to her father's hall
“Who's that, who's that?” her own father called
“It is I dear father, did you send for me
By such a messenger”, naming he

“Oh no dear daughter, that can not be
Your words are false, and you lie to me
For on yon mountain your true love died
And in the graveyard his body lies”

So straightway then went this maiden brave
And with her friend she exposed the grave
There lay his body though six weeks dead
With the Holland handkerchief all around his head

Here comes your man - The Pixies
outside there's a box car waiting
outside the family stew
out by the fire breathing
outside we wait 'til face turns blue
i know the nervous walking
i know the dirty beard hangs
out by the box car waiting
take me away to nowhere plains
there is a wait so long
you'll never wait so long
here comes your man

big shake on the box car moving
big shake to the land that's falling down
is a wind makes a palm stop blowing
a big, big stone fall and break my crown
there is a wait so long
you'll never wait so long
here comes your man
there is a wait so long
you'll never wait so long
here comes your man

Dark Secet Love by HIM

For a moment the world turns its back
and you let me come closer
though the hearts were filled with fear
for this dark secret love
Oh let the world turn its back
and please let me come closer
though the hearts filled with fear
for this love
our 666 has got a name
we burn in its flames again and again
what is our dark secret love?
see me as a seal upon thine heart,
as a seal upon thine arm
for love is strong as death
and jealousy is cruel as the grave
the coals thereof are coals of fire
which hath a most blazing flame
I love you ~*~ I love you
For a moment the world turns its back
and you let me come closer
though the hearts touched with joy

It's Not Easy Being Green Kermit the Frog

It's not easy being green
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow, or gold
Or something much more colorful like that

It's not easy being green
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things
And people tend to pass you over
'Cause you're not standing out
Like flashy sparkles in the water
Or stars in the sky

But green's the color of spring
And green can be cool and friendly-like
And green can be big like a mountain
Or important like a river
Or tall like a tree

When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why
But why wonder why wonder
I am green, and it'll do fine
It's beautiful, and I think it's what I want to be

Some people say my love cannot be true
Please believe me my love and i'll show you
I will give you those things you thought unreal
The sun, the moon, the stars all bear my seal

Follow me now and you will not regret
Living the life you led before we met
You are the first to have this love of mine
Forever with me till the end of time

Your love for me has just got to be real
Before you know the way I'm going to feel

I'm going to feel
I'm going to feel

Now I have you with me under my power
Our love grows stronger now with ev'ry hour
Look into my eyes you'll see who I am
My name is Lucifer please take my hand

A House Is Not A Motel by Love

At my house I've got no shackles
You can come and look if you want to
In the halls you?ll see the mantles
Where the light shines dim all around you
And the streets are paved with gold and if
Someone asks you,
you can call my name

You are just a thought that someone
Somewhere somehow feels you should be here
And it?s so for real to touch
To smell, to feel, to know where you are here
And the streets are paved with gold and if
Someone asks you, you can call my name
You can call my name
I hear you calling my name yeah
all right now

By the time that I?m through singing
The bells from the schools of walls will be ringing
More confusions, blood transfusions
The news today will be the movies for tomorrow
And the water?s turned to blood, and if
You don?t think so
Go turn on your tub
And it it?s mixed with mud
You?ll see it turn to gray
And you can call my name
I hear you call my name

by Pearl Jam

the direction of the eye
so misleading
the defection of the soul
nauseously quick

I don't question
our existence
I just question
our modern needs

I will walk...with my hands bound
I will walk...with my face blood
I will walk...with my shadow flag
into your garden
garden of stone

after all is done
we're still alone
I won't be taken
yet I'll go...

I will walk...with my hands bound
I will walk...with my face blood
I will walk...with my shadow flag
into your garden
garden of stone

I don't show...
I don't share...
I don't need
what you have to give...

100 Years by Five For Fighting

I'm 15 for a moment
Caught in between 10 and 20
And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are

I'm 22 for a moment
She feels better than ever
And we're on fire
Making our way back from Mars

15 there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
15, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live

I'm 33 for a moment
Still the man, but you see I'm a they
A kid on the way
A family on my mind

I'm 45 for a moment
The sea is high
And I'm heading into a crisis
Chasing the years of my life

15 there's still time for you
Time to buy, Time to lose yourself
Within a morning star

15 I'm all right with you
15, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live

Half time goes by
Suddenly you're wise
Another blink of an eye
67 is gone
The sun is getting high
We're moving on...

I'm 99 for a moment
Dying for just another moment
And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are

15 there's still time for you
22 I feel her too
33 you're on your way
Every day's a new day...

15 there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to choose
Hey 15, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live

i love that five for fighting song. rather oddly i came to post a five for fighting song too....

Dying - five for fighting

I'm Dying, Dying to wake up without you, without you in my head again
I'm Dying, Dying to forget about you, that you ever lived
There's a shade come over this heart that's coping with laying down to rest
I'm Dying to live without you again

I'm Dying, Dying to find a distraction, get you away from me
I'm Dying, Dying to reach a conclusion, so that the world can see
It's the same old story of love and glory that broke before it bent
I'm Dying to live without you again

The first time you left I said goodbye
Now there's not a prayer that can survive

Dying, Dying to die just to come back so we can meet again
Dying, Dying to say what I always should have said
It's a strange emotion this but there's still hope in this
As long as there's a breath...
I'm Dying and I can't live without you again

It's a strange emotion this but there's still hope in this
As long as there's a breath...

I'm Dying and I can't live without you
I'm Dying and I can't live without you again

A Horse With no Name - America

On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings

The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And a sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound

I been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert your can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
(la la la...)

After two days in the desert sun
My skin began to turn red
After three days in the desert fun
I was looking at a riverbed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think it was dead

You see...
I been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert your can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
(la la la...)

~Guitar jam~

After nine days I let the horse run free
'Cause the desert had turned to sea
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The ocean is a desert with its life underground
And a perfect disguise above
Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no love

You see,
I been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert your can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
(la la la...)

Sandman - America
Written by Dewey Bunnell, ©1971

Ain't it foggy outside
All the planes have been grounded
Ain't the fire inside?
Let's all go stand around it
Funny, I've been there
And you've been here
And we ain't had no time to drink that beer

'Cause I understand you've been running from the man
That goes by the name of the Sandman
He flies the sky like an eagle in the eye
Of a hurricane that's abandoned

Ain't the years gone by fast
I suppose you have missed them
Oh, I almost forgot to ask
Did you hear of my enlistment?

Funny, I've been there
And you've been here
And we ain't had no time to drink that beer

'Cause I understand you've been running from the man
That goes by the name of the Sandman
He flies the sky like an eagle in the eye
Of a hurricane that's abandoned ...

Cradle Of Filth
Presents From The Poison-Hearted

Reigning at the feast of Phantasia
Heightened pleasures were endeavoured to bow
Before My coronation and vocal aspirations
To rule this fool creation fallen ?neath Me now

I knew deep eyes
Of a distant Christ
Were scarred from afar under starry lustre
Sighting my recitals on the rites of vice
Perverting Virtue
Enslaving grace
Behind the glittering mask of pride
Saving face finding thorns to pierce
His side

Desire, the fire
Spread hell throughout my soul
And higher the wire
The more I sought control

Straining from the leash in exultation
Head to the wind to breathe with ravenous lungs
The global scent of fornication
A writhe of many vipers deciphering tongues

I whispered schemes to dreamers then
To pursue an Eden
That screamed of me supreme again
As my world bloomed
So too the moon
Through Adam to Seth,Enos,Cainan
Mahalaleel and Jared blew
Perverting virtue
Enslaving grace
Behind the slippery guise of lies
Saving face making waves to drown their faith

Messiahs, pariahs
Aeons reversed the two
Thus higher, their sprites
The more cursed grew their roots
And suffering?

I swept cruel seas
On the galley of the shadow of death

A fist in the c*** of the spread horizon
A kiss for the sun risen red once dined on
The coast of Menses

Discharged from celestial wombs
A first degree murder of ravens
Followed in fugue through the crack of doom
The Goat of Mendes
I set regime
In the galley of the shadow of death

Angels in raiments
As pure as coal
Taking their payments
In tortured mortal souls
A bold direction
The abyss edge
But on cold reflection
One they warmed to nonetheless

As they preyed the paths of the righteous
Through the myth of thistled orchard floors
Bearing gifts of plenitude, for
The apples of the Lord were rotten to the core

Temptation, My ambassador

Attila, Herod, Pharisees and Nero
All begged of Me for more

Down dark steps of history
I waged a war with a Heaven
I could not see?
Beyond My wildest fantasies

Throwing sixes over deadly sin
I traded those who played to win
Skin for precious skin?
And that that wormed within
Staining the reams of revelation
Etching ever-afters in accursed verse
The limpid rags of resurrection
From papal parapets were to dirt dispersed
Desire, the flyers
Spread Hell throughout their souls
And higher the fire
The more I held control
