By the way... LOVE the new advertisement banner floating under the Ent dude. That was not there when I left, and it was almost a culture shock when I saw it the first time.
How's everyone?

I get a lot of something about Last Chaos, a video game, with all these elf-y looking people dressed in white clothes with pointy shoulders.
*stabs the Rule in the eye with pointy shoulders of Last Chaos clothing* Edit: By the way... it does NOT take long to fall back into old habits. at self.

You know what I find really funny, but I didn't realize I find funny until JUST NOW?
How in primary schools here, they call the grammar and reading portion of school "Language" and you have science, math, social studies and language. Then you get up into middle and secondary school and they switch to call it "English". And even college too! Do you guys in other countries call it whatever language you speak? Or is there actually a better term for it? *pondering*

"Language Arts" became a trendy term a few years ago...mostly as the 'whole language' crew won the battle over what style of teaching reading would be used in the elementary grades. So, at that time you had 'language arts', 'social studies' and the sciences... as well as whatever physical education or arts education they managed to squeeze in. In the upper levels, the course tracks became more specialized. "Vocational Arts' students separated from college track students and older versions of the subcategories became more important. You took 'American history" instead of 'Social studies" and "AP English" instead of "language arts". You were in "Calculus" rather than "Consumer Math" and took a foreign language (if college track). Since "Language Arts' would reasonably apply to any language, the term reverted to "English". A couple of generations ago, your study of "English" would have been recitation, rhetoric, and formal grammar, just for starters.

Early in the evenin' just about supper time, Over by the courthouse they're starting to unwind. Four kids on the corner trying to bring you up. Nauti picks a tune out and he blows it on the harp. Chorus: Down on the Cafe, out in the street, Nauti and the poorboys are playin'; Bring a nickel; tap your feet. Hector hits the washboard and people just got to smile, Tessar, thumps the gut bass and solos for a while. CC twangs the rhythm out on his kalamazoo. Nelly goes into a dance and doubles on kazoo. Chorus Chorus You don't need a penny just to hang around, But if you've got a nickel, won't you lay your money down? Over on the corner there's a happy noise. People come from all around to watch the magic boy. Chorus Chorus Chorus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clJb4...eature=related |

Hey, we sang that song in music class in secondary school!
Midge, it's the same here. Dutch is referred to as Language class till you get to the point where you start learning more languages. This can either be the last 2 years of primary school if you have a good school (the 2nd language being English, Spanish or Chinese) or the first year of secondary school (in which the second, 3rd and 4th and possible 5th language are English, German, French and Latin or Spanish). Greek starts 2nd year, but only if you already studied Latin in the first. For some strange reason at my old school you weren't allowed to study Spanish if you already studies Latin and Greek. I never did find out why.

Teehee, so you didn't bring your tazer?
Are you back from your trip? Had a good journey home? Hehe, and did you win anything? You went to Las Vegas, right? But maybe I'm stereotyping here...
