I went to open campus today and it felt quite okay. I haven't made a definite decision yet, but I think I will end up doing that study.
Perhaps my sis will go to the same college: yesterday I was reading through the list of studies presenting themselves again for the 4th or 5th time and I suddenly noticed "Crime Science", which is what my sis wants to do. She couldn't come today, but we brought her home some leaflets and she was very positive. What are the odds of that? On our way there, my mum and I saw a lot of nice houses and previously unknown Dutch landscape. Very pretty and it made my mum very happy.

Nothing in bloom here. I say open campus, but actually in the Netherlands there are no campuses. There is just the one building with classrooms and a cantine (cafeteria?). Often in the middle of a city.
There is only one university with a campus and that is the only private university we have in this little country. For that matter, there are only 12 or so universities.

I like the other pic and the pic you posted, Gwai, too. Oh well, just concrete for me I guess. There is no way I can afford to study abroad for 3 years. Oh, what am I complaining, I've been to Japan already

This doesn't show it well but my campus is very pretty outside, especially in the summer (waaay too much snow in the winter, and treacherous ice), but on the inside it just looks cheap and tacky. :/ |

Beautiful sky, though indeed it is a bit difficult to see the building itself
You all sure know how to build nice universities!

I sang pretty well at seminar. I was very pleased with my performance... It wasn't my best, but then again I think it represented my current skill level. I looked confident... in my face :P.
Apparently it was a bit humorous: My face was, I was told by many people, very cocky and relaxed (to suit the song I was singing), but you could see my pant legs shaking really hard because my legs were shaking so much, and when I tried to make an expansive hand gesture my hand was shaking so hard that my arm just kind of made a weird jerking motion and then dropped back down to my side. But my voice was okay. Not great, but decent. There was a 50 minute period between when I got to warm up and when I got to sing because there were announcements before the seminar, and then 6 singers went before me. HOWEVER, I got nothing but positive comments because even with it being not fully warmed up, apparently my voice was much improved from last semester when I sang for Mock NATS. I also realized, as I was sitting backstage waiting to file out and sing as part of the on-stage chorus at rehearsal tonight, that I need to seriously chill the 'eff out. Like, fur reelz. I always beat myself up about my voice and I feel like I don't have enough time to learn all the things I need to learn, or like I'll never make it. But by golly if I don't learn the things, or if I never make it, freaking out the entire time wont make me one iota more prepared... maybe not worse, either, but definitely no better. So I'm gonna take one huge step back and then try to prevent myself from tip-toeing back up to that line . Also, last night, I was out till 1 a.m. learning how to play basketball, which is apparently a LOT OF FUN when people actually take a little time to explain what you're supposed to do. I always hated it before because people just kind of threw the ball at me and expected me to figure it out, but last night when I said I didn't know how to play my friends actually took the time to play a couple of slow rounds and stop every move or two so that they could explain what they'd just done. I wasn't great or anything, but I was starting to pick up the idea for how to defend by the end, and I did make one basket, so hey. Last edited by Tessar : 03-29-2008 at 12:30 AM. |

Wow, that's great Tessar!! Wish I could have heard it.
Nervousness can destroy many performances, you know, choke up on a high note that you were singing perfectly fine when you were rehearsing... But at least you didn't let that stop you. Yay! And basketball is great. (Korfball is better, but that aside ) We should play a nice game some time!

*sigh* We have lovely weather, my grandmother is celebrating her birthday, I did a whole page of my thesis and I've been singing this entire afternoon since no one is home to stop me.
I just can't stop smiling this goofy way too bright smile! At the end of the day my jaw will hurt

It's been a lovely weekend. On Friday, I went to a friend's place where a few of us met up to go take a sauna and drink wine. And that we did: to celebrate me getting my experiments done and handing in two grant applications, I bought a Pomerol which was just as wonderful as I remembered. In the evening/night we had a waterpipe, watched some comedy and went to bed early (as in, early in the morning).
Saturday evening I spent with another friend, eating (again) and discussing science and sustainability. And I also got some work done, aside from cleaning my flat. Not bad! Now I'm more or less ready for an intense week again.. X)
