I always thought the mods should have a thread that the regular Mooters could see that gives a brief explanation when someone gets banned/tempbanned, like "xyz was given a 2-week ban for repeatedly ignoring such-and-such a rule on the date of so-and-so in these threads (list threads), after having received several warnings from admins/mods via email/PM". That way, we at least know what's going on, and when they're coming back, and you don't get these strange alien-moderator conspiracy theories ...
o.O ... but the powers-that-be prefer to work behind the scenes and keep things quiet. It's their call, as they are the ones doing the work, anyhoo. but I still think it'd be a good idea

I suspect on balance Valandil is right, it'd probably cause more problems than it solved.
Regarding the spambots, it really is time entmoot upgraded the V bulletin. we are on version 3.0.3 and the recent version is 3.6.4 i think. Trouble is they replicate ... they are the tribbles of the cyber universe ... DON'T FEED THEM!!! and without getting into this whole thing again ... anyone advertises on their first post - you HAVE to have zero tolerance ... there really is no other way, and anything else is a green light you can register here without any code verification etc .... you guys really have no choice these spam days but to upgrade or add security measures as everyone is so fond of saying this is a pg13 board ... some of this stuff just should not be here on this board |

Frankly - I think he's gotten ALL the leeway he deserves - and then some. Let's stop dragging that all up, OK? That was a totally separate incident from the current "spam attack" - and it's correct and proper for a moderator to make that distinction. What is INcorrect and IMproper, is for a member to continue to attack that decision and disregard requests to keep it out of open forum. OK?
