Heir of Wind and Fire.. or something to that effect. (Patricia A. McKillip) 2nd book in the Riddle-Master tri. The story is thickening... the plot is getting more intriuging, but the writing still isn't very captivating.

Believe you me, this would put me to sleep if I read it in the dark. There's not enough descriptions of where I'm at... d'ye know what I mean?

About Dracula; I've been thinking they (yeah they) ought to make it into a movie again. It would be a lot scarier as a movie than a book. I think Jack Davenport would make a brilliant Jack Seward.

of all the remakes, I still like Frank Langella's portrayal of Dracula the best.

I didn't really get that scared when I was reading Dracula. Excited and nervous maybe. But last night, I was watching a thunderstorm with my windows open, and I kept seeing bats fly by. And I just kept thinking "I wonder if having the window wide open counts as an invitation for Count Dracula to come in?" It was a little frightening. But funny, none the less.

.Technically speaking, it probably is, in a roundabout way. Like leaving your car keys in the ignition when you leave the car to pop into a store, or walking around a men's prison in a red spandex mini-dress, or leaving your house doors unlocked while nobody's home - stuff like that. That is very cool, tho, about the bats.

Well, I am probably going to cut back on the reading for a while. I'm still reading A Traveler's Guide to Mars, but I'm also reading the internet. I have printed out like 40 pages of different stuff (articles, extremely long sections of threads I missed, things I wrote or someone else wrote that I like and see fit to print, etc.)

The internet is a priceless resource for reading material. I have found so many classic works available online to read for free, not to mention just reading random interesting research ideas off google. Troll's Bane, have you found the internet library "Project Gutenberg"? What a treasure trove of material.

Never heard of it. But I have found one site that has books you can read for free. It's called bibliomania, I think.
Anyway, it has a limited selection of Novels, but a few other good resources (great reference section).

I must say, if it were not for the internet my education would be sadly lacking...

I can't really read novels on the computer though. Shorts stories maybe, but I like being able to read in bed.

The net benifits me intellectually in several patterns:
1. I hear about it on the net, and get info from someone who would know in RL.
2. I hear about it in RL and looki t up on the net.
3. I hear about it in RL and look it up on the net and not understand and look for better RL advice than I had before.
4. Opposite of above.
5. etc.

I know, Katya, me too. Like being able to read in bed, that is. There's something about owning and holding a book, you know? and just something irreplacable about the whole sensory experience of reading a physically real book. It's something that computers can never duplicate.

Yeah, same here, TB. I love it because it's the whole world right there, at your fingertips if you'll excuse the cliche. You can learn about almost anything you want, things you'd never have any idea about otherwise.

Lately I've been reading about some aspects of psychology and the mind. Very cool site, where you can repeat many experiments on yourself.

I agree with you two. I refuse to borrow a book from the library. If I ever happen to be in a library and I happen to see a book I like, I'd say "How much would it take to for you to let me steal this book?"

I agree completely. Did I mention that my copy of The Godfather is literally falling apart? I like it that way. I like the smell of a book. It would be a tragedy if we as a society lost that.

I kinda stole Dracula from my school's library. I didn't mean to, but I guess it was my choice not to return it.

So I'm not the only one who opens a book for the first time and - takes a long deep breath...

(And sniffs the favourite ones now and then, while reading.) I really love the smell of paper, old or new, and no matter what kind of book

My copy of LotR has a distinct smell. And I have fond memories of the smell of The Neverending Story when I was seven.
