Yes, Bilbo, being the crazy fool he is, tried to domesticate one, but it ate his whole larder when he didn't let it in the house and so he left it near Rivendell.
Did Elrond ever find the cat that Bilbo left near Rivendell?

After Gollum acquired the One Ring, he dove underwater to his secret passage and swam all the way to Mordor, where he was scared. Then he found a new tunnel in his secret underwater passageway and followed it to the Shire.
