Well, I did it every day last winter. Venus was seen every morning for about a month or so, and it was bright. I've seen Mars too - it's big and bright and red. I like starry sky and it's nice to really see those planets, which are so far away but still in our solar system...

When I look at stars I usually began to think what is it like there - the star is a centre of another solar system and there are planets around it, and what are the planets alike, and if there is some kind of life there, and whether this star even exists anymore - it takes a lot of years for light to travel, we see the star, it's bright to us, but it might be dead the moment we are looking at it - we see something that doesn't exist anymore...

And so called aliens... think how small is the chance that there are millions and millions of planets in the universe, but only one has life on it... that would make our world a true miracle - the one, the only one...

Hmm... I think I got a little carried away. Anyway it's always intresting to see the planets and stars and comets. I saw the Hale-Bopp comet - it was truly beautiful

EDIT: I've seen the solar eclipse too I was about 6 years old and it was a cloudy day, but it was truly amazing and I will remember what it felt like my entire life

* Mars (Ares) is the god of War
* The name of the month March derives from Mars.

It has been widly researched, even since prehistoric times

I looked at Mars through my telescope this summer. I believed I was looking at Jupiter, but after reading this thread I realize that it was actually Mars I was studying.
That also explains why "Jupiter" looked so redish and why I didn't see Jupiter's moons or red spot
I've never seen Mars that bright before. The planet looks better than ever.

I've seen every planet but Pluto and Mercury.

...and I haven't seen Earth. I can't find it, no matter how hard I look up at the heavens.

Well I'll give it a look, I've still got my crappy old Tasco telescope as I never got around to knocking up anything better. Still not seen Mercury, doubt I'll see Pluto, or even knew it if I did, but I'm fairly sure I've seen the rest.

I have a small appplication that plots the Galilean moons, knocked up by a chap called Michael moltenbury. I've just tried to locate his pages but with no luck, if anyone wants it I could post a link to it on my webspace. This was quite a find at the time, the only one I managed to turn up. Aha! got it, check out downloads page here: http://www.michael-moltenbrey.de/ I have this and it's pukka.

The earth is beautiful, but it can't be that beautiful for you to not notice it for this long a time

I can't say it interests me that much. In fact the first thing I noticed is that the day is the day after TTT comes out

Sigh, these things make me curse our light pollution even more. When I climb on our roof, I can hardly see the stars above, even in open weather. But what I unfortunately can see is the further off glow of the highway and the city.

Maybe I should nick my sister's telescope.... It's not like she's using it anymore AND she left it in my closet.

We'll probably get our telescope out if we ever get a clear night. We've been getting so much rain. I'm going to be real disappointed if we aren't able to see it.

(edit for stupid spelling error)
