But do you know what? Sweden gave us 6 points. And they gave Germany 10 or 12 points. I doubt the good taste of the Swedes. sorry.
Germany got 10 points, which was a little funny.
We gave Norway 12 points, for which I'm happy.

I'm glad for you that Austria ended up at the 6th place. However, I'm relieved that Sweden beat Austria

This show is so damn ridiculous. But Turkey is not bad (althoug I haven't heard their song). Poor UK.

The UK got nothing??

Why does this not surprise me (heard the "song" on the radio today)

Jolly well done to Turkey (don't think we have any Turkish 'mooters)

Funny, I could have imagined losing from Sweden or Norway but Turkey.... That was surprising. Thanks to you Jonathan, as I remember that Sweden gave us no points. j/k I was actually rather convinced Sweden was going to win.

Anyway, I think it's about the best result we had in years and years (I don't remember ever getting higher than 40!). And we already guessed that with our luck we would end up being second. So I'm very happy with the result. And we did have a very good song. I never heard until now.

Austria got amazingly high points, though I must admit I laughed very very hard. No offense Lalaith but it was very funny.

*happy, happy*

Just a vague disappointment. We'll never have a song of this quality ever again I fear.

But you should have heard the Belgian presentators. They went wild when the points started to pour in. They made some very daring comments about other countries which they would NEVER have made if we weren't doing so well. Still I have a bit of a problem losing to Turkey, personally I didn't think she was that well a singer. And that's NOT because we lost to them!

Hey, I myself said that it was ridiculous, so there is no need to excuse.
That was one of our best results ever. And with that song. That's just unbelievable.
I really liked the entry from Poland, I think they should have been better.

I'm actually glad we were second, after we won in 86 the RTBF nearly went broke!

Yes, you do have a point. I guess they were very happy with the results. Funny how both Sandra Kim and Urban Trad were selected by the RTBF. Ik vraag me af of Vlaanderen echt zo'n slechte smaak heeft dan.

Don't you think that Latvia was very, very good this year.

They didn't get many ponts, I think only the UK got fewer points (0 points).

Latvia was very good last year though, I was happy that they won.

They had like 4 or 5 points. And I guess they got these from Estonia or any other neighbour state.

Just watched the first round. I was impressed by the diversity of songs this year. Usually they're much more alike.

I see Urban Thrad's success from last year has influenced some new entries.

Hmm, what do you think of the German Singer, Max?
In Germany they are already saying that he is most likely to win.

Note to Lin: Yesterday I watched the German news and guess what they said? They are still pretty sure that Max will do but they introduced the best competitors, which could also have chances. And guess what? The Austrian participants are among them. Wheee. Have never heard a song of that group, though.

Ahaha, I'll bet you'd be going for the Austrians regardless of how good they are, just as long as Max doesn't win. This European rivalry thing is amusing to watch. But don't, say, the German-speaking countries vote for each other like the Scandinavian ones, out of loyalty?

We didn't get the final...
I actually don't think some were that good. We should've get there. He's a pretty good singer... very special. Do you remember him? David Daor, and his song's name was 'To Believe'.

What do you think about the fact that almost all the songs were in Englsih? I don't like it. I think that the German singer sings in Englsih too (correct me if i'm wrong Lalaith).

Personally, I don't like it. It would be more in the spirit of 'coming together as different countries with different identities' if they sang in their own language, rather than English, which is everywhere anyway. Plus I wouldn't be able to forgive the cheesiness of the Swedish song if it were no longer in Swedish.

I don't really mind, but it's true it would be more interesting and fun to watch the contest if there were more songs in foreign languages.

Haha, they've translated the song into English, so no Swedish for you if you're going to watch the contest from down under
The problem with translating the song into English is that people will now understand how cheesy it actually is.

In a way it's a pity that nearly all songs were in English but all in all singing in English does give better chances of winning. So I can understand why they changed the rule from national language to national language or English.
