A very good point Sam, and I'm glad you had the presence of mind to point it out, cos it saves me an irate post. Why WOULD Aragorn and Arwen et al feel the need to fool around? They've been patient enough to get this far. Besides, I can't see Tolkien trying to insert premarital sex into his works.

It is a good point. Fortunately it is a moot one. (no pun intended! )

Well, I don't really blame Arwen, how could she resist? Really, though, I would be very very surprised if there was any sexual connotation in the next two movies. I trust Peter Jackson and I feel that he has gotten the feeling of the first movie correct. Still, it doesn't stop me going through the books, looking for a scene with Aragorn with his shirt off.

Okay, Miranda, Mr. Bloom didn't look that bad in Blackhawk Down...

Agreed wholeheartedly that the inclusion of any premarital sex in the films would fly directly into the face of Ronald's own beliefs.

Fortunately, it is all a red herring.

A moral of the whole (after the primary symbolism of the Ring, as the will to mere power, seeking to make itself objective by physical force and mechanism, and so also inevitably by lies) is the obvious one that without the high and noble the simple and vulgar is utterly mean; and without the simple and ordinary the noble and heroic is meaningless." I think if there was ANY premarital sex in these movies Tolkein would be turning in his grave. Remember, he was a Catholic, and I believe I read somewhere that he was pretty religious.

Okay,
but what is the "fantasy horror scene" referring to?
Any guesses?

Am I the the only one who wonders about Elvish sexual practices? Think about it.....Arwen almost 3000 years old...STILL a virgin??...ouch... Elrond separated from his wife for so long....might explain why he came off so frustrated in the film....

OK Im gonna stop thinking now......

Elvish age for menopause?

Ok REALLY stop thinking now....
about the questions (though legit.) that would be inappropriate for this site.

Yeah, I'm not sure either. Probably it has to do with all them ugly orcs and such, though.

No, it's because there's very little distinction between male and female. Mind you after 3000 years...

3000 years and still a virgin? Easy to see why she chose to become mortal.

Sween - I guess you missed this thread I had posted a long time ago - Arwen and Aragorn scene. cassiopeia - that was me, not Tater. Tater just explained what the scene was about. i didn't want to give a lot of details at the time. He does though. I had posted this back in May.

It's the truth. Just because you don't believe it. Haven't you seen the kissing scene in the new TT trailer? They even show Treebeard picking up Merry and Pippin and Gandaldf fighting the Balrog (not that has to do with Aragorn/Arwen sex scene).

Well there's another thing that's cool about LOTR...in other peices of literature where there's mention of someone having a baby or even a scene you can say "Oh yep I can see that". With LOTR scenes dont appear and so you're spared seeing stuff in your own mind.
I'm honest I cannot see Galadriel and Celeborn...ahem nuff said Sam;you're beginning to blush.
Cheers,
Sam
ps. Ummmm interesting http://www.colleenmeade.com/lordofth...index2.htm#top
They may have gotten TTT mixed up with James Bond OR maybe not...middle of the page. middle picture...yeah.

The original tolkien love scene...

Quote:

*Ahem* Let me read you a few passages from the HOME, volume #3. Perhaps you shall reconsider that staement.
Quote:
and out he danced, unheeding, fleet
enamoured, on enchanted feet,
he sped towards the hillock green,
the lissom limbs, the danching sheen,
he leapt upon the grassy hill,
his arms with lovliness to fill,
his arms were empty, and she fled
away, away her white feet sped
but as she went he swiftly came,
and called her with the tender name
of nightengales in elvish tongue,
that all the woods now sudden rung,
Tinuviel!, Tinuviel!
and clear his voice was as a bell
it's echoes wove a binding spell

Tinuviel!, Tinuviel!, his voice such love and longing filled,
one moment stood she, fear was stilled,
one moment only, like a flame
he leapt towards her as she stayed
and caught, and kissed that elven maid.

And love there woke in sweet surprise
the starlight tremble din her eyes,
A! Luthien! Ah! Luthien!
more fair than any child of men;
O! lovliest maid of elfinesse
what madness does thee now posess!
A! Lissom limbs and shadowy hair
and chaplet of white showdrops there;
O! starry diadem and white
pale hands beneath the pale moonlight!
she left his arms and slipped away,
just at the breaking of the day.
(The Lay of Leithan)

Quote:
He lay upon the leafy mould,
his face upon earth's bosem cold,
aswoon in overwhelming bliss,
enchanted of an elvish kiss

(The Lay of Leithan)

Quote:
Thus luthien, whom no pursuit,
no snare, no dart that hunters shoot,
might hope to win and hold, she came
at the sweet calling of her name;
and thus in his her slender hand,
was linked in far beleriand;
in hour enchanted long ago,
her arms about his neck did go,
and gently down she drew to rest,
his weary head upon her breast

(The Lay of Leithan)

Quote:
Thus flitting fast thier short hour flies
while daeron watches with fiery eyes,
haunting the gloom of tangled trees,
all day, until at night he sees
in the fickel moon their moving feet,
two lovers linked in dancing sweet,
two shadows shimmering on the green,
where lonely-dancing maid had been

(The Lay of Leithan)

What does teaching at (or "going to") Oxford have to do with one's own beliefs about premarital sex?
