Ooh, Fingolfin is an awesome elf. I just read that part today. Who else had the guts to ride to Angband, knock on the gates, and challenge Morgoth to a duel? And he held his own pretty well too. For a while anyway.

I wouldn't say his guts allowed him to ride to Angband, I'd say that it was his foolishness and rage that overcome his wisdom to attempt to fight an impossible duel.

You're right. I guess it wasn't guts, but basic suicide. It reminds me of Eowyn, except that he didn't win.

Maybe if he'd had Merry around...

Luthien. Nuff said.

I like so many of the elves it's difficult to pick just one.

Strider

In that case I like Glorfindell because he is a wise Lord of old and he is a pure light in evil times. I like Elrond because he rocks and he still rocks....
Elrond is a great Lord and master of his realm. He has great powers of healing and controle.
I like Feanor because before he was evil he had great skills and he kept his life strait for awhile despite his mothers death.

Luthien. She kicked Sauron's ass, and sang Morgoth a lullaby.

Actually, Maethros did attempt to bring all the noldor together, but he failed due to circumstances beyond his control.
Well, he was gathering them for war. It may have had more to do with strategic prudence than sentiment.

I think the most innocent of the sons of Fëanáro was undoubtedly Ambarussa Umbarto the Fated (or in Sindarin Amros), the youngest son of Faenor who was burned with the ships of the Teleri on the coasts of Middle-earth. You have to read The Peoples of Middle-earth for his "strange and sinister story", but it is a good story.

I PERSONALLY do not count Luthien because she was MORE than just an Elf.

But, that is me.

The other mixed breeds I don't mind, however.

She may be part maiar, but she's still an elf. She counts.

Not for me. However, I'll send some marmite your way to produce a truce. I don't wanna start a she was/was not an Elf thread.

Well,I can't be absolutely sure, but I would think that the Maia part would not be counted, because Melian took the form of an Elf and lived as an Elf. She may still have been a Maia in power to a degree, because she held the web of enchantment around Doriath, but she seems to have been more Elvish then Maia while she lived in Middle-earth.

I'm with SGH on this one. Maiar characteristics don't appear to have been prevalent in that particular bloodline. It may have very well been expended with the girdle of Melian (?)

And where's my marmite?

I think Lúthien inevitably had the blood of an Elf, but also the powers of a High-elf and a Maia. In power I think she was half-Maian, and in blood she was all Elven.
