Thought the writers of the script should care a little more, eh? I don't really mind the lines, but it's yet another instance where they should have stuck to the book. *cough* Let's hunt some orc" *cough*

Speaking of being moved,
I was moved yesterday when I noticed that our local movie reviewer gave 3 stars to FotR and 3.5 to Spiderman, and 4 to Spirit! What are these people thinking?! (Spirit is a nice movie for kids, but for Pete's sake)
this may be off topic but I am surrounded by idiots, I have to tell somebody.

And I recall Harry Potter got 3.5 stars, as opposed to LotR:FotR's 3. Something is definitely wrong with that reviewer! Honestly!
(dare I assume we read the same newspaper, entlover?)

The two most moving parts for me were

#1 Boromir's Death Scene. When he says "I would have followed you to the end, my brother, my captain, my King." I get teary eyed and then when Aagorn starts crying I loose it. Very pathetic really.

And #2 The conversation between Frodo and Aragorn right before he leaves the fellowhsip. When Aragron in down on one knee and says "I would have gone with you to the end, to the very fires of Mordor." I get all warm and fuzzy inside.

The part where they leave Moria after Gandalf had fallen into shadow is also kinda sad, I mean, even the I have no friends or feelings Elf looks like he's gonna cry.

Rest assured, there are no lynchings here - as far as I'm aware. *looks over shoulder worriedly*

And as far as your theory goes, I DO agree with it. Admittedly, the line bugs me more because it's generic (you reading this Olsonm?) and corny, rather than due to Boromir's pride - but a good theory, nonetheless. I buy it. Consider my sheep devoted fans, command them at will.

Let's see...

This:

"Farewell, Aragorn! Go to Minas Tirith and save my people. I have failed."

VS

This:

"I would have followed you to the end, my brother, my captain, my King."

Which am I going to choose? Which... one.... ?

You care NOT that someone (not pointing any fingers - *point*) b*stardised Tolkien's work - which was years in the making? What a cold sad git you are.

Actually I care not that you think it's a b*stardization, that's your opinion. Besides, anybody that doesn't like Dex's diner has got to be a little off.

He changed the line, therefore he b*stardised it. And Dex's Diner DOES suck.

But back to topic: the most moving, for me... Hmmm.... I guess seeing the companionship between Gandalf and Frodo at the beginning. I thought Ian portrayed his love of hobbits extremely well in that scene. And it's the only on I can think of right now that isn't corny.

I thought Gandalf's death scene was done very well. I loved the end of the movie from the passing of the Argonath till the end. A very moving film overall.

See my signature for the highlights of the dialogue in the film.

Any more I should add?

Hey changes to the text could have been worse. Just imagine if Arnie had got hold of the film rights.

Gandalf's last words before falling would have been "I'll be back".
And I'm sure he'd have got a "Hasta la vista, Balrog" in somewhere.

And there would have been no Borormir death scene at all, as it would have been "just a flesh wound".

I thought that Gandalf's talk with Frodo was very touching. I don't think Boromir's last words were corny! That was great. And the bawling outside Moria, practicaly everything everyone said. And also, the scenes in Lothlorien were moving too. And I didn't like Mr.Look-at-me-I'm-gonna-be-king-and-I'm-so-much-better-than-all-of-you-even-Gandalf-and-Hobbits-are-slime either. He gets pretty haughty and arrogant at the end of the third book to if you ask me.

Did you just chose the words of peter jackson's screenwriter over the words of the master? For shame!

Ah, well there is much that is moving... I agree the Gandalf and Frodo conversation in Moria is great. But Iwish it wasn't re-run later in the film. Sort of saps the strength of the first scene.

Now the Boromir scene, "My brother, My captian, My King...." That gets me every time. I guess because I relate to his character, no doubt I would want the ring to save my land and people. His redemption is powerful stuff. Every arrow brings me to the edge of my seat. My heart breaks and tears flow...yes Everytime...I guess temptation and the hope of redemption are big themes that move me...

Actually, I think it works exceedingly well the second time around. You hear Frodo's line, "I wish it had never come to me" - and then his expression changes completely when he suddenly remembers Gandalf's line, which comes (to me, anyhow) as a surprising moment every time.
