You know, the Golden Jubilee would be a flop if it wasn't for the publicity and coverage (Which, by the way, was over the top and unnessecary) by the media of the Queen Mother's death.

Also, Viggosbeard, you forgot to add breaking the law and getting away with it lightly on your list.

Well, NZ is *still* part of the Commonwealth as well. On her last visit, the Prime Minister (a woman) didn't wear a skirt, and didn't curtsey. Big Whoop. Well, you can imagine the media had a field day... "Ooh, the cheek of her, wearing pants..." All woman's magazines of course. What a load of bollocks.

* viggosbeard ponders criticism , looking clearly ignorant *

The days of cowtowing down to a person who is supposedly a superior just because their family in ages past was the most deadly - after all how does ones family become royal , I didnt vote for her - are long gone. I acknowledge a person of superior intelligence or all round better person, I bow before the bravery
of individuals , of artists and doctors and people who are willing to sacrifice themselves for others etc etc. I do not however have any respect for an outdated , expensive , wastefull and morally corrupt organisation who purely through accident of birth ( and far too much interbreeding ) expect and demand my subservience.
Im not sure what you mean by ludicrous comment , would no tourists visit Britain if we had no monarchy ? Do we have nothing else to attract visitors here , no art , no architecture , no music , no countryside , no sport etc . We are all allowed our own opinion - I thought that was the idea of boards - Im not ignorant ,
a bit churlish perhaps , but not ignorant , I would say my facts were proberly nearer the mark than yours , but hey if you want to support the monarchy then all power to you ,just dont presume we all should.

I didnt think you could castigate a female - was this live on tv or in the privacy of her own home ? I suppose thats one good thing about having a monarchy , we made some really good ways to execute our nasties.

You can castrate a female, but I was thinking of castigate!

So are the Sex Pistols gonna re-release their 1977 single, "God Save the Queen" which they put out for her 25th anniversary?

Of course if one wants to remember 1977, let's not forget the Ramones, "Rocket to Russia"... The Talking Heads, "1977"... The Buzzcocks and all that wonderful noisey energy... Noise Annoys... You could start a band in the afternoon and by the end of that night you would be playing some pub or club for beer money!

Another Motor Head song, "Eat the Rich"...

Oh, I must dust of my LPs and make some dats for my friends!

(Sorry a bit off topic, started free associating...Golden Jubilee to Silver to 1977 to punk rock )

Outdated? Certainly not viggosbeard, they are excellent international diplomats and are respected throughout the world, most of the public want them to stay.

No. Expensive? She brings in more than what it takes to keep her. There are more arguments for monarchy than against.

Are you from an English family? Going quite a few generations back?

A morally corrupt organisation Viggosbeard? What? Diana, Princess of Wales? What has the Queen Mother or the Queen ever done to merit being "corrupt"?

One of the best things about having a monarchy is that it puts a limit on political corruption and ambition. By having an apolitical head of state, no politician is ever allowed too much power because everything they do is accountable to the Queen. At the same time, she doesn't meddle in politics and never becomes corrupt herself.
Why would so many people have turned out to the Queen Mother's lying in state or the first day of the Jubilee tour if the monarchy was so outdated?
BTW, I think the Sex Pistols are going to re-release that song. Perhaps they'll play it at the concerts!

The queen mother's lying in state was to do with Tourism, the publicity from the lying in state has gave the jubilee it's hype.

Also, Princess Diana was just the one monarch to do work like that, there are also a lot of commoners who do that as well.

Princess Diana was nothing more than a publicity stunt. So she hammed to the cameras well, could tell a good sob-story, and just happened to be relatively good looking... Big Whoop. Princess Anne belongs to more charities than Diana did; but then, she shuns the public doesn't she... unlike Diana did....

okay, i think we should get back to the jubilee, and off being nasty about princess diana. the queen just signs forms and so on, if she refused to sign them, she would be overthrown from the monarchy.

Not sure what you mean by English family etc , but im the usual Brtish mongrel , bit of Irish , bit of Welsh , bit of scouse. Not sure why that matters though, as I said before , I would throw out the monarchy tomorrow for the reasons stated earlier - If you want them , you can have them - do you think edward will be making a documentary about the Jubilee ( with all the proceeds going to charity of course - Oh sorry I forgot him and sophie arnt allowed to are they, what was the deal, stop using the monarchy as a business aid and mummy will give you a couple of million pounds).
Anyway thats about all on this topic - enjoy the party and pretend were one big happy country and lets hope Philip doesnt make any more racist comments !
