Thanks again for all the info, T-E. I've been referring to on-line copies of LotR to post on the moot, but I can no longer access the sites. I suppose it was major copyright infringement to have them on the web.

My big copy of LotR is at home, and I usually log on while at work (don't tell my boss). I only bookmarked them. I should've copied them to my hard drive when I had the chance. Garn!

They were pdf files, and very handy. I'm lost without them. Guess I'll have to spring for another copy of the books.

i reccomend a one volume paperback published by Houghton Mifflin.
