Should've, would've. I'm sure PJ would've liked to have Tom, but it was impossible to work in.

I don't mind PJ missing out Tom Bombadill but it was a shame that he missed out the old forest. That would have been cool...but then again Arwen would probably show up to save them. I really don't like her and she is in the next two films (It seems) far too much!

Give it a few years. Technology will be available for a special edition DVD or even one of the new Blu-ray discs(in 1 to 3 yrs) which can store a little more than 5 times that of DVD's today.
With today's games allowing you to paste and even morph your pics. on to game players, they can easily do a remake of the Arwen scenes or even get EW and Co. to redo THEM plus a new actor for Glorfindel. They can then come up with original and enhanced plotline features on the discs. This goes for Maggot, Tom, and anyone else not in the current release.
It worked for ILM/Lucas; why not for WETA/PJ?

Who do you think could have played Bombadil if they had left him in? IO really wonder who could do his part.

I'm looking at either Jack Nicholson or Anthony Hopkins. Heheh.

Well Jack N. did look good as the Joker in Batman and Anthony H. was pretty funny as Van Helsing(sp?) in Bram Stoker's Dracula...

Personally, I think either Christopher Lloyd, Jim Carrey, or Robin Williams would be a perfect Tom Bombadil

Lloyd maybe, but Carey or Williams would have wrecked the entire movie.

John Cleese perhaps?

Okay, John Cleese. Maybe. I once saw a documentary on Lemurs that he narrated. . .

. . .that was random. Anyway. *cautiously creeps back out of the woods*

Well, I can't think of who exactly, but I picture someone with a DEEP voice who can sing well, not too tall, definately roundish, with a black curly beard.

By George, that's ME! I should play Bombadil!

(No, I'm just kidding, I'm not even a man).

How about Ian McKellen as well. And then they can show him having a conversation in the end with Gandalf (Ian too). And the hobbits would absolutely look hilarious with that puzzled look when they first see Tom.

I cannot let that pass without comment. I must admit it gave me pause, I'm rereading FotR and it is beautiful, full of elanor blossoms in the grass and white mountains. The movie has those too, but it's an adventure epic, not a travelogue of Middle Earth. I don't think PJ loves misery, he spent tons of time trying to get the settings just right. And he did fine on the relationships between the characters, which are part of the beauty of the book.

They planted the gardens of the Shire a year before starting to film, so they would look like real gardens. This is not a man who loves ugliness -- he's aiming at realism.
