I'm more concerned about the vote counting process - how do we ensure this is open and independently verified?

I also think you should have a sliding scale on voting power -

1-1,000 posts, 1 vote

1001-2,000 posts, 2 votes
2001- 3,000 posts, 3 votes.

(unless of course i have 4,000 posts by then )

which candidates are going to seriously campaign on the PM size issue?

Just Say no to 94!!

edit** - hah! ..just checked it was 94 pms - noticed i had one unconfirmed pm ... it's that bloody bastard captain carrot!

(lazy git!)

I should also remind all you candidates, I have not seen any VP picking. I would have thought there'd be some scrambling...

Candidates:

Nurvingiel
Trolls' Bane
Durinsbane
Sir Jammi
Acalewia
Finrod Felagund
...and! The Telcontarian! who has just announced his candidacy.

If I missed anyone, please poke me.

Anything Goes -- Tabby Interview

And now it’s time for… “Spring” from Vivaldi’s Seasons plays, the Entmoot Symphony Orchestra recording, led by Maestro Gestrendreck PrestoAnything Goes, the most popular show on both MootVision and now a weekly radio show on K-HVEL! Music fades out. And, remember, friends, we are currently devoted to covering various aspects of the campaign, in a coordinated effort with the Teacup Table News and the MENN, the Middle-Earth News Network (The 4th age is the age for MENN).

So…, here’s your host, Dr. Zaius!

Dr. Zaius: Good afternoon, everyone! I’m going to cut right to the chase. We have a very special guest here tonight (even if he is a filthy human), and also one of the founding members of this show. So, I present to you, Trolls’ Bane, who is running for the 2008 Entmoot President as the head of his party, the Brendonianist Party, which at last count was the largest political party in the Mootiverse.
Tabby enters.
Welcome, Tabby.

Tabby: Hello, Doctor.

Dr. Zaius: Now, I’d hate to be terse, but the script says to be, so… What are your plans as President?

Tabby: I’m quite excited; in fact, I don’t think there is anything that could possibly contain my enthusiasm toward this big event, which though seemingly trivial is actually quite important.

Dr. Zaius: So, you’re glad to be running?

Tabby: I’m quite glad that I have gone as far as I have. To think that, just over four years ago, I made my first post, and didn’t follow up with a second for some time afterward. It took me over a year to get to a hundred posts, then about six months to five hundred, then about three to a thousand, so as you see my…mootfulness is increasing on average. Now I am where I am now.

Dr. Zaius: I take that as a “yes.”

Tabby: Yes. I am glad that I am running. But I couldn’t be running, nor would most of the other candidates be running, without the support of many members of Entmoot. It is they who encouraged me to go forward (and openly make my claims, so others quickly picked up the idea).

Dr. Zaius: Is there anyone in particular who has contributed to your success?

Tabby: Yes. My campaign manager, whose campaigns I used to manage, is of instrumental help. My friend Carla is a major help, though not a member of Entmoot nor even the Party, she is probably one of the most helpful people I know. Same goes to Annelise, who helps with some campaign posters and may even eventually contribute to an actual quasi-televised speech by me. To get back to members, I think the people who have contributed most to my success are Nurvi, Durino, Hector, Hobbits Beta and Gamma, and more. I realize that the former three are all opponents (not so much Hector, because he cannot run again), but toward the beginning were very supportive of my party and my campaign. Lotesse also supports me with gusto, though she refuses to be involved in Entmoot politics, a sort of resilience that, I daresay, is hard to come by and on occasion I wish I could be as laid back and carefree when it comes to Mootian politics as her.

Dr. Zaius: Interesting…But is there any single person who has contributed the most to your success?

Tabby: Well, I could say that my campaign manager is helpful in instrumental proportions. Also, my friend Carla is of great help, and probably the most helpful person I know, though she is a member of neither Entmoot nor the Brendonianist Party. The same goes to Annelise, who is very helpful with posters and perhaps even a televised broadcast. And as for members—

Dr. Zaius: You already said all of this.

Tabby: I know. I repeated it because apparently you did not get the first time: there is no single person who has brought me to where I am. Everyone has been of so much help. Perhaps I could find some words to put it in… Think of what Newton said. I could thus parody his words, “If I have traveled farther, it’s because I stand on the shoulders of rebelliously-hasty Ents.”

Dr. Zaius: Good way to put it. Perhaps that would make a good epitaph.

Tabby: … Are you threatening me?

Dr. Zaius: No. I meant when you die.

Tabby: In other words, you’re threatening to kill me.

Dr. Zaius (somewhat alarmed): No!

Tabby: Good. It’s best to keep it that way.

Dr. Zaius: So…um…how do you think you and Rohirrim’s involvement with an Imperialist coup d’etat on Entmoot will play in your election?

Tabby: It doesn’t worry me in the least. I’m not really involved in the Empire when it comes to Entmoot: we’ve got another board in another galaxy, so we’ve got ourselves busy. But as for the Imperial Starfleet, well, I intend to use it only to invade those countries that appear to be a threat, and make them unthreatening and part of us. Such barbarian civilizations such as Gondor, Mordor, Rohan, and the Shire, we must civilize by making them part of the Democratic-Socialist Mootian Empire. Nations will crumble, empires will collapse, and entire lands will produce hybrid ice cream plants in the path of orbital bombardment, and our advanced units of Ninja-Wizard-Giraffes, Demon Hobbits, and Leif Erickson clones will divide and conquer all who oppose us. Entmoot will be the greatest state in all the Mootiverse!

Dr. Zaius: Long, awkward silence. … So…um…what are your short term goals, or projects you wish to start as soon as you win the election?

Tabby: Well, in case of emergency, I plan to establish a secondary Entmoot—not a backup Entmoot, but merely a means of communication between members of Entmoot should Entmoot cease to exist. Among other things, I’ve already begun drafting a constitution, which I’m going to present whether I win or not. Not to sound fascist or anything, but I’m also working on getting administrative or at least moderative power to presidents, though if I get none I am unfazed. Perhaps in a more long-term goal, I would also like to cement the power of the Presidential cabinet, and make Entmootian government democratic yet centralized. Perhaps a Capitol thread is in order, or something of the sort. Others I can not even begin to state, lest my rivals catch wind of it and happen to think of similar ideas.

Dr. Zaius: So you have many plans for the future?

Tabby: Yes, you could say that.

Dr. Zaius: Well, that’s all we have time for today. We are glad to have you on our show. Perhaps you will join us again in the near future?

Tabby: Yes, in the near future. Unless someone goes back into time and prevents me from attending this one, at which time I would no longer be able to return because I haven’t even been here in the first place, but then again, whoever stopped me would have no reason to stop me from going, and thus a temporal paradox would come into existence (those things that your colleague Doc Brown flatly stated “destroys universes”).

Dr. Zaius: So…that was a yes?

Tabby: Yes.

Dr. Zaius: Good night, everyone!

And that was the latest edition of Anything Goes, covering yet again (for the first time) certain leaders in the Entmoot Elections. Please remember to vote, and whoever you vote for, make sure they’re the one that bought you that drink in the Teacup Café all those years ago.

MOOTNEWS OUTLET
"Don't wait for Download, Plug in to the Outlet"

As the Entmoot election season lumbers along, moot voters are getting the occasional unspun look at the candidates. It's not always pretty.

Troll's bane, for example, is the darling of the scientific set in the moot electorate. Imagine their dismay at the release of this excerpt from a recent interview.

Quote:

Tabby: I’m quite glad that I have gone as far as I have. To think that, just over four years ago, I made my first post, and didn’t follow up with a second for some time afterward. It took me over a year to get to a hundred posts, then about six months to five hundred, then about three to a thousand, so as you see my…mootfulness is increasing on average. Now I am where I am now.
One is, perforce, reminded of Lake Woebegone, where "all the children are above average," and perhaps of Buckaroo Banzai's compelling but circular reminder "Where-ever you go, there you are."

Is this what voters expect of their "Men of Science"?

Ent huggers among the voting public may be dismayed to find Trollsbane,( or as his PR team is now terming him 'Tabby", in a relentlessly shameless bid to corner the "cute" factor, always considered a strength,) quite open about his more, shall we say, international ambitions.

Quote:

Locutus of Borg could hardly say it better. You WILL be assimilated.

As this humble reporter so frequently points out, the beauty of our electoral process is enhanced because a Free Press exists, unfettered by personal or party loyalty, to help voters make up their minds based on the merits (or otherwise) of the cabdidates. *blows nose* Candidates. We trust YOU to make up your own minds.

Before anyone arrives to rewire them.

Teacup Table News - Politics section

"A rather unsettling radio/television revolutionary has emerged into the spotlight, infamous for finding the most microscopic or ultramicroscopic flaws in the most generalized statements and interviews involving the candidates. This famous host of the Mootnews Outlet, who we will call Sister (not to be confused with Sister Golden Hair), is highly respected and revered among her contemporaries, though her rather frank and terse statements often cause others to get angry, which she then criticizes, well, critically. She is the queen of critics in a critical society. Her awesomeness is not to be overlooked, but her unbiasness is a little biased. Listen with caution."

Well, it's going very fast, half the candidates you have not met, and you missed some events instrumental in shaping the tide of things. So don't feel bad.

And THAT, ladies and gentilhommen

is what I love about Entmoot. I've never been anywhere with such amazing social mobility.

I've gone from Earl, to Duke, to Queen, in less than 350 posts. THAT is an open society, yessireeebob.

I've been searching the Internet for an appropriate salute for use in the Brendonianist Party. I would have preferred a more traditional, Roman salute, but that was unfortuneately contaminated and made bad by Adolf Hitler. Mussolini, who I don't regard as bad, used a similar salute but to the untrained eye also resembles the Nazi salute. Two thousand years of a cool salute ruined. It would have been perfect too. But no-o-o, I had to use a variation on it where the fist is clenched, which looks simply idiotic. Perhaps I will figure out a way to preserve the Roman salute, but slightly different. Not likely, though.

Edit: Rohirrim Says: Yeah frickin Hitler ruined all kinds of symbols, Pre WW2 swastikas represented like a circular pattern of nature, harmony or something. I've always wondered what it would be like to see a swastika and not immediately think "BAD".

Well, I just got back from Iran, if that's worth anything. Ghana? Hmm, I'm planning on a jaunt to Zimbabwe to visit some friends come spring. Then perhaps to Sri Lanka...

But what does that have to do with our Entmoot presidential elections? Aside from Finrod being absentee?

Nothing, except the fact that he is absentee and needs to get back here soon (a month more absence would be ok, I guess) to continue campaigning.
