What? The year changes?

As for time on Mars, how about Babylon 5 where they used "Earth Standard" as a measurement. After all until we find anyone who has a different clock we can use ours.

Hey! To me the number 2000 is significant. I happen to love round numbers

A day on Mars is only about half an hour longer than a day on Earth, so Mars colonists could run on Earth time for at least a few days without any problems

A.F - After Ford, meaning the godlike automobile genious Henry Ford. Has anyone here read Huxley's Brave New World?

Hehe, after I posted I found it strange that my post was above yours, considering my post was only half a second old

I think the year 1999 should be year 0. That was when Ben Milder started up the Tolkien Trail.

Since RotK hit theatres last year, we could just call this the Fourth Age like they did in the books after the Ring was destroyed.

Oooo! You're gonna get pretty unpopular around here... advocating that we base our new time on the MOVIES!

Maybe Tolkien's birth? Publication date of LotR? Date of the famous, 'In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit.'???

I know . Just waiting for JD to comment that

Yeah, I believe 'In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit' day would be a good date to call year 0. That's when all the trouble about the Ring began.

Well, the real trouble with the slightest of all rings (just a little trifle) started some 1000 years earlier when an evil goth-lord with nothing better to do made it.

Jonathan - we are NOT going to base the Fourth age off of that hack jackson (can I say hack in general messages? )

Anyway - if anything - we will base the Fourth Age on the publishing date of RotK. Not those hollywoodize crap action movies. One of the writers would probably have to explain to Jackson what the different ages were and that there was a Fourth Age.

Oh, there was. There was one hell of a party. I still remember the 31st december 1999. I was cleaning the house ( to get it cleaned before mum came home) with my walkman on, listening to the 'top 2000 of best songs ever', occasionally racing upstairs to start my recorder for a song I wanted to have, and complaining about my sister who didn't do anything to help me. I remember it well, it was loads of fun. I still got that tape I recorded then, I was too late to switch it off at one point and I recorded the news-guy saying "It's seven'o clock and in Japan they start lighting the fireworks now..." It's a relic. Of course, they start lighting the fire works every year in Japan, but it was sort of special. Regardless of the fact that it wasn't really the end of the millenium, though. But you really didn't want all that rambling, didn't you?

How about AT: After Tolkien (I think Valandil mentioned it) We would be in the year 31 now, I think.

Yes there were - i was in the heart of Time Square - for the huge Times Square 2000 celebration.

It was incredibly awesome. I'm glad I went and I'm glad we waited and went directly to Times Square.

Trish and I were going to go to the Twin Towers and then head back up to Times Square, but then when we got off the train we decided that if we were going to be in Times Square for New Years - we wanted to be right in the heart of it - not on some side street or too far away to really see.
