I came in through the General Section and never really left it. I've read LotR and The Hobbit, but I'll never like joining deep discussions. Not because it doesn't interest me, but because I usually have nothing to add either way.
I think Tess was spot on with what he said about people joining a place because they like the people, not necessarily the place. For me it is that way anyway. And don't apologize for voicing your thoughts! I like the threads you started here in General. Why DO people like math? I haven't the foggiest, probably never will understand, but it's interesting to think about in any case. So thank you for asking and keep on asking.

Elleth, it is admirable that you are so passionate about Tolkien, and thanks for the apology. For most of us oldbies, we've been into Tolkien a LONG-ass time (1994 for me). Ya tend to run out of steam, ya know?
Per my previous post, do check out sf-fandom - they have some great academic debates over there from time-to-time. And for those that are writing off the orlando bloom fans, we got some of our best 'mooters through the love of Orlando Bloom & Constipated Frodo.

Tessar brings up another important point: if you want a specific Tolkien discussion, often the best way is to start one yourself. We here at Entmoot tend to be a bit slow to get started. (Hoom! )
Sitting around and waiting for other people to start something is 9 times out of 10 not going to work, I've noticed that much myself. Mostly if you start something, others will follow. Sometimes it is enough to bump an old discussion to attract people. I'd like to think we have old threads still worth reading.

I just started one about a topic that has long intrigued me. It's in the ME forum, "Tolkien and Iron."
