One particular branch of my family tree is well-known for their wanderlust. One in particular, it is said, went to sea. Who is he?

Here's a tough one for everyone:
What does Samwise Gamgee and his wife Rosie Cotton's last name have in common? Hint: Note the last names; "Gamgee", "Cotton" In order to get this question, you kinda have to know about John Ronald's childhood

Begging your pardon Mithrandir, the rules are: don't ask until you've answered. The next riddle will come from the person who answers barrelrider's question.

Ah gee sorry about that. Just ignore that question of mine then.
As for barrelrider's question, I'll give it a shot. Is it EÄRENDIL

Earendil the Mariner
Nice try Mithrandir. Earendil was a mariner, but a man not a hobbit. We are looking for a hobbit in Bilbo Baggin's family tree.

It must be the Tookish branch of the family *walks upstairs and grabs a shabby paperback copy of The Hobbit* ... *shuts book in frustration, marches upstairs again and grabs The Appendices from his LotR Millenium set*
Here we are! I found him in The Family Trees: Took of Great Smials. Isengar, son of the Old Took: Quote:

You can find the info. in Unfinished Tales, I believe in Battles of the Fords of Isen. Elendilmir means 'jewel of Elendil'. I don't quite right remember what it was. I think it was a sort of jewel on a circlet worn on the head ... perhaps what the King of Arnor wore. That's just my hazy memory, though. I could look it up, but I'm terribly lazy.

Thanx Inoldonil! I check in U.T and it's a white jewel in the crown worn by the kings of Arnor.

Okay here we go:
Curufinwe, Findis, Ñolofinwë, Írimë, Arafinwë That makes 5 over all. Well so I had to comeup with a really hard one: What was the name of the father of the "person" that reported to the 14 companions what the thrush spoke? Regards Findegil |

Hy Freinds,
what's wrong with that question? I think nearly everybody had read the answer once. Seems for most of you it was a over long time ago. Take a lock in the second best known bock of Tolkien. Happy reading and riddeling Findegil |

Findelgil,
The answer is Carc. The "person" is the raven Rac, son of Carc. (Hobbit, chapter 15). I'll have to give some thought to the next question. Be back shortly. P.S. Nice going on the Finwe's children question.

Segue from The Hobbit:
The two swords, Glamdring and Orcrist, were found by the dwarves and Gandalf in the Trolls lair. In what Elven city were they forged?

Gondolin. Glamdring was forged for Turgon, Orcrist for, um...
Shucks, that was the only question to which I knew the answer. You people are on drugs.

I don't know if this is improper, but this thread is too much fun to let it go. Since the last correct answerer has not posted another question in over 2 weeks, and if our esteemed moderator would please excuse me for any faux pax, I will ask another, (easier) one.
When Bilbo arrives at the Green Dragon to meet Thorin and company, he laments that he forgot three items. Name one (bonus if you know all three).

He lamented to have not taken any money, no hat and no pocket-handkerchief.
Ohh, that will do for a bonus , so lets go on! The sons of the Valar were lost in the later writtings, but we get some of them even by name. But I remember only one named of the third generation. What was his Name? Bonus if you can give his perantage. Mark well that I am not talking about the decendants of Melian. Regards Findegil Last edited by Findegil : 02-21-2002 at 02:06 PM. |

Some help clarification/help needed? Okay. Third geneartion means a grandson or a granddaughter of one of the great Valar. And since all the talk over the son of the Vlar was lost, look in the early volumes of The History of Middle-Earth. Volume two to be precise. Hope you will get it now. Findegil |
