I also heard that ambidextrousness is actually more prevalent than true left-handedness.

That's very true. i'm not left handed in writing, but all those other things you mentioned, I do better with my left hand. When driving we did a little exercise where you control the car with one hand, and I had mroe control when using my left hand. It's weird.

Left handedness was associated with witchcraft in europe in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuaries when the church was particularly afraid of magic.

Feanor as Satan? What a peculiar, (and rather silly, IMO) thought.

Actually it make sense. I'm a lefty, and most things are designed for the right-handed.

Not really, to me. Melkor is the closest to Satan; how people can make Feanor as him is rather beyond me.

Yeah, I know. Quite annoying at times, isn't it?

Melkor isn't just like satat, he is satan. Or at least 'satanic' according to tolkien.

Let me think... when melkor had to pay off ungoliant, he only gave with one hand, and she takes note of it. Which hand was it again? Grr...

*Grabs Silmarillion and scrambles to find the answer*

He held the Silmaril with his right hand!

So does that mean he was right handed (hand he held the silmarils in) or left handed (hand he gave the jewels to ungoliant with)?

Very good question: I was wondering the same thing.

Personally, I hold things in my left hand, and if I have to hand something to someone, I naturally use my free right hand ... I don't switch. If this held true for everyone, it would mean he was right handed.

But I suspect that Satan is basically ambidextrous, if that is any help in your search for the answers.

I've hurt myself a lot, but they were always little things. I've never broken my wrists at all. My two right-handed brothers have had more health problems than I've ever had.

And people seem to think if you write with your left hand, you do all the other main things with your left hand - like catch/throw balls, hold a sword/staff, etc... I do all that other stuff with my right hand. I guess I'm just weird.

I can write okay with my right hand. I practice writing with it ocassionally just to see if I can do it, and it takes longer, but I'm actually fairly good at it.
Okay, now to reply to this one.

Actually, it does make sense that more lefties that righties would die in accidents, because a lot of stuff is designed for righties, and therefore somewhat more dangerous for lefties to use.

I'm really strongly left-handed and use my left hand for most things (except things like what I mentioned in my previous post).

When eating, I hold my knife in my left hand and my fork in my right hand. Unlike most Americans, I don't switch.

I've tried writing with my right hand. The writing's legible, but just barely. This also changes my writing style, which seems odd.

What about being left-footed?

I'm right-handed and can't do much of anything useful with my left (I tried writing with my left hand and it turned out to be some sort of Orcish sub-writing), but when I play soccer I always kick better with my left and when I start a race or something I always push off with my left too. Is this a normal thing or do other people have opposite foot-hand combinations too?

I am a righty, my dad and his Dad, my Grampa, are lefties.
I always write with my right hand, and kick soccer balls with my right foot.

But when I start to run I pushoff with my left foot. When i start a cartwheel, I push off with my right ft... I think it just depends on the person.

Although, I did have a small surgery on my right leg, and I hurt my right knee trying to go over a jump on skiis...

It was just a joke as to how some people vastly exagerate how evil Feanor is and how much they hate him. (i.e Turgon. Wait he's not real... )

Yeah, I guess so. I have to take paper out of a three-ring-notebook before I write on it, otherwise I'll take it out later once my hand bumps into those stupid rings.

When I eat things I have to cut, I hold my fork in my left and my knife in the right. I generally use my right hand for holding utensils all the other times, but ocassionally I'll use my left.

Actually, what intervened was not science, but the due course of law. The court proceedings that went on at that time were a travesty, and would have benifited greatly from an 'innocent until proven guilty' mentality. Certainly if there had been people using supernatural powers to injure and kill their neighbors, they would have deserved death.
