as far as i can remember ia have read lotr in finnish at least 3 times and in english 5 times ,always a pleasure.

i myself have read it 8 times but my parents read it to me as a child(with a lil bit of improvisasional(i can't spell) revising) so all in all i have read it about 11 times. it definitly gets better and better as beardofpants so boldy pointed out

I have just finished my 2nd time. I finished it the first time in the 9th grade and now I'm in the 11th. I had a year in the middle to digest it all.

I've read Fellowship of the Ring about 3 or 4 times though, getting ready for the movie. I'm just starting my re-reading and study on TTT, preparing myself for the best movie of 2002.
