I say E - O - Win. I have been wrong before. I finally found out Cirdan is pronounced Keer - dan. Back on topic, I have heard: Frodo = Freddo Gollum = Gom Lurtz = Clints (don't ask)

Re: this: P. S. Sam and Frodo are meant for each other!! The way they look at each other in the movies...either that's very good acting or they truly harbor feelings for each other ((I think the latter is the truth)).
To the naysayers, one can read this into the book if one wants, and if you check out the cast commentary on the Extended Edition DVD, you'll find that Ian McKellan (sp?) encouraged Astin and Wood to play up the male-male subtext for young gay audiences members who would want to see such a relationship. Not that there's anything wrong with that. |

Gandalf-Tenderloin Gollum/Smeagol-Feces (as in animal poo) I made the mistake of trying to explain where Gollum came from and somehow they thought Feces sounds alot like Smeagol *sigh* Quote:

In the cast commentary. It's when Frodo awakens in Rivendell. Ian McKellan says that he pointed out to Astin and Wood that the book specifically states that Sam takes Frodo's hand, and that first, hardcore readers would want to see such little details make the movie, and second, gay viewers would appreciate it.

thats really cool they did that! I didnt even realize that that lil bit was in the book. (edit: this second section is a lil rant, it seems like every topic on this mb has gone in that derection. it is NOT directed at anyone.) I'm sorry, I just have a slight problem with believing that Sam and Frodo want eachother. *sigh* It ruins the whole story to me. What they have is more of a Knights of the Round Table love. Ya know? Like brother, or maybe even father son (because isnt Frodo quite a bit older?) But anyways, I dont think that they really want eachother in that way.

My mom calls Gandalf the following:
Gregnog Ganondorf (same with my cousin. also, for those who don't know, Ganondorf is the villain in the Legend of Zelda series) Gildorf Garnerderf That wizard She also used to call Gollum "that creepy 'my precious' thing" And my grandma calls Aragorn "the good-looking one" and Legolas "the blonde one"

I know exactly what U mean exept sometimes when I'm talking to someone about LOTR, they don't know what I'm talking about unless I like describe it in huge detail.
Like: Me: I think that Gollum was really good in the Two Towers Person: Gollum Me: Smeagol, he had the ring for 500 years Person:??? Me: The guy who hisses and leads Frodo and Sam to Mordor Person: I didn't know Gamduff (they mean Gandalf) hissed Me: Not Gandalf, he lead them to Moria Person:??? Me: The Dwarvish place taken over by orks Person: I didn't know Isslenguarrd was Dwarvish Me: Your completely hopeless

I've already posted some of the things that people in my school call LotR characters but i just remembered some more.
Aragorn: he guy with the orange hair that goes to his shoulders. Boromir:the guy that died, you know the one with the horn. Gadriel: Pretty Girl Saruman:The ugly guy with the white beard Uruk-Hai: The ugly things that kill the guy with the horn. I don't get why they call Aragorn "The guy with the Orange Hair" but whatever. |

Firhithiel did you mean the actors or the characters? I have to point out that Sam and Frodo care fo each other genuinly, Sam would die for Frodo and Frodo would do anything for Sam...they're protective of each other as best friends are supposed to be, and that might include giving a kiss to the brow or holding their hand when they're scared. As for Sean and Elijah...they're doing what PJ hired them to do...portray Sam and Frodo as best friends...which is what they've done, and rather well too...those looks are just part of the acting. Actors rely on each other's facial expressions and voice tones...it's a very emotion oriented kinda thing.
I've given up telling my friend Said (Sigheed) that Aragorns name is AiraGORN not AraGONE. One of me mums friends called Merry "I saw that one guy on Hetty Wainthrop". Elijah himself called the Ents "Treebeards" *winces*. But the worst blow of all came when a boy at my school said that the Ring finders nephew's name was *gulps*...Fren...he says there are 5 elvish rings of power...Earth,Fire,Water,Wind and Air...and he also says he's read the books eight times...AUUUGGGHHH. That's one of those times when I wish I knew how to curse in elvish...or at least had a hard back book with me to hurl at his fiendish head. Cheers, Sam

It really bugs me when people mispronounce LOTR names, but I can't be too critical... when I first saw the first movie I had barely started the first book and I thought Legolas's name was NICHOLAS! LOL. Shame on me.
