Re: Music Survey

What genre of music is your favorite?

I dunno...I like Classical, jazz, bluegrass, old country, "Adult Contemporary" (whatever it's called? 88.5 XPN on the radio in Philly)

At what age did you start really getting interested in music?/What type of music were you raised on?

Hmm....my entire life my dad played classical.

How often do you attend a concert?

Once every few months (professional concerts that is).

Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no)

Slightly...ok yes.

Do you admire the Beatles?

Moderately so.

How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it?

A good bit. Of course.

Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years)

slightly...more I've just been introduced to new things.

What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music?

not really

Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop?

Rock

Who is your favorite musician/band?

Hard to say...especially since I'm not too familiar with groups. Just individual songs. (I'm getting there)

In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....)

Nope.

Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs?

No idea.

Do you play an instrument?/which instrument?

Oboe, piano, and organ.

Re: Music Survey

What genre of music is your favorite?
I tend to gravitate towards rock of the "indie" variety, but generally I listen to whatever I like.
At what age did you start really getting interested in music?/What type of music were you raised on?
Always have been interested. I started listening to music of "my own" at about age 10 (Weird Al). My dad liked country, and some new-agey stuff, but what rubbed off on me was Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Animals, The Ventures. My mom liked easy listening and classical--I preferred the Dvorak over the Dan Fogelburg.
How often do you attend a concert?
Monthly.
Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no)
sure.
Do you admire the Beatles?
so-so.
How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it?
Often, and yes. Especially Dvorak and Rachmaninov
Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years)
They change daily according to my mood.
What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music?
I don't think much about her, and I don't care too much for her music.
Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop?
Rock...
Who is your favorite musician/band?
No one favorite... I'm obsessed with Pavement, Modest Mouse, CCR, Neil Young, Sigur Ros, System of a Down...
In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....)
There's a lot of horrible music now, and there always has been. Same goes for great music.
Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs?
I wouldn't know.
Do you play an instrument?/which instrument? [/B]
I used to play bass and a little guitar and piano.

What genre of music is your favorite?
Power Metal and hard rock. They are both extremely different so I can't even rate them on the same scale.

At what age did you start really getting interested in music?/What type of music were you raised on?
13; raised with Dad's classic hard rock in the background but never with an interest in it

How often do you attend a concert?
never really

Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no)
yes

Do you admire the Beatles?
yes

How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it?
Hardly ever, but it's very good for the most part. Maybe that's only because I have to be very in the mood for it to listen for it, you know. It may seem ecxellent only at the moment because i want it to be.

That's good though.

Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years)
Yes, slightly. I guess it always varies.

What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music?
I don't care about Norah Jones.

Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop?
Rock

Who is your favorite musician/band?
Blind Guardian and AC/DC
Both should be played more on the radio...

In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....)
Big, big, NO!

Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs?
Certainly.

Do you play an instrument?/which instrument?
...no

Re: Music Survey

What genre of music is your favorite?
Can't say I have a definitive favourite genre. I like a little bit of that, a little bit of this. As long as it's not too loud and too repetitive.

At what age did you start really getting interested in music?
About 17-18, when I learned to tape my own tapes.

What type of music were you raised on?
Abba, Neil Diamond, Genesis, the Beattles, John Denver, ect....

How often do you attend a concert?
Rarely. Whenever there's a I Muvrini-concert in the vicinity (which is hardly ever anymore because the b******s changed their yearly schedule) or the yearly visit to the Night of the Proms (which is rather unlike the British variant).

Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no)
I can't say I admire him but he wrote some lovely music.

Do you admire the Beatles?
Same thing, but they got a load of good songs.

How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it?
I like it but listen rather rarely to it, when ever I need to hear some music where I can't sing or hum along.

Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years)
A little, I got to know a few new bands that I like now but didn't really like then en the other way around.

What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music?
Can't remember any song of her at the moment, I can't say I have a good head for musicians and titles.

Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop?
Possibly pop but it depends.

Who is your favorite musician/band?
Too many to choose! But I suppose Queen comes the closest.

In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....)
Hm, neh. I like older song better than modern ones.

Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs?
Dunno, can't remember any of their songs right now.

Do you play an instrument?/which instrument?
If you count the occasional pitiful attempt on a didgeridoo or a djembé, otherwise nope. I don't have any musical talent.

Re: Music Survey

What genre of music is your favorite?

Eh...rock. Then, classical and irish and british folk.

At what age did you start really getting interested in music?/What type of music were you raised on?

I started getting interested in music when I was about...10. I really, really started getting interested at age 12.

How often do you attend a concert?

Um.. Well, besides the kiddie concerts I've been to and the drive-in concerts that my friend's church puts on, I've been to three. Two classical, one christian band. Chris Tomlin. Ring a bell? Yeh, me neither.

Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no)

Yes

Do you admire the Beatles?

Admire? Yes. Can sing a peice of any song besides Yellos Submarine? NO.

How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it?

Pretty often. Love it to death.

Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years)

Certainly. It hasn't changed too much. Just expanded.

What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music?

Yeah. Her's is the only jazzi-esh sort of music I like besides Bernstein.

Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop?

Rock, definitely. yeugh. Just the name pop gives me the creeps. What kind of genre is that? Pop. pop. pop. like soda. Sorry, folks. Down here in TN all pop is called coke.

Who is your favorite musician/band?

Oooh. This is a tough one. I'm afraid I'll have to pass. I've really been listening to a lot of Brand New lately. I can't say they are my favorite, though.

In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....)

Some. There's probably more good stuff and more bad stuff. Really bad stuff. If I had been into music back then or even been alive, I'm sure I would have found stuff I liked and stuff I hated just the same.

Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs?

Uhh...I don't really know any Led Zeppelin songs. Am I missing out?

Do you play an instrument?/which instrument?

Ha ha! Play? I wish. I do pretend. I can play the beginning of that Nirvana song on the guitar...what's it called again? "Come as you were", I think.

What genre of music is your favorite?
I don't think I have one definite favourite genre--I like lots of types of music, but I really enjoy "different" music, that doesn't really have a category, like groups like Dead Can Dance, Deep Forest, Enigma, etc.

At what age did you start really getting interested in music?/What type of music were you raised on?
I really started to be aware of and interested in music in my early teens--13 or 14 probably. I was raised on classical and Christian contemporary music.

How often do you attend a concert?
Rarely.

Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no)
Yes.

Do you admire the Beatles?
No.

How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it?
Quite often; yes, I like most of it.

Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years)
My tastes have definitely changed over the past 5 years (from age 13 to age 18): from pop to rock to hard metal to rock to classical to only Christian to very open as it is now (as I mentioned before)

What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music?
I don't really care for Norah Jones--it is the "jazzy flavor" that is what I don't particularly like.

Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop?
Rock.

Who is your favorite musician/band?
Tough question. I'll have to get back to you on that.

In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....)
In terms of rock, I think yes, in terms of other music...I don't know.

Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs?
Yes.

Do you play an instrument?/which instrument?
Yes: I play piano, I sing, and I used to play the french horn.

Re: Music Survey

What genre of music is your favorite?
Rock

At what age did you start really getting interested in music?/What type of music were you raised on?
about 11-12, but I was raised on Hank Williams Jr and Led Zepplin

How often do you attend a concert?
not too often, man.

Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no)
yeah, but I like others better. he is okay.

Do you admire the Beatles?
yup, they are pretty good.

How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it?
Sometimes. i do enjoy it, but I didnt bring much to this place, so I havent really listened to it lately (I brought the 1812 overture, though!)

Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years)
not too much. They went backward from mainstreem stuff to classic rock, and now they are lodged in the 80's

What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music?
dont even know who she is

Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop?
well, rock, but not really anything new at all. except Tool. Tool forever

Who is your favorite musician/band?
Probably Led

In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....)
no. it sucks now

Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs?
A little. I think the alchol and drugs played a part too.

Do you play an instrument?/which instrument?
yeah, I play the bass

Re: Re: Music Survey

What genre of music is your favorite?
I like most genres, except for country.

At what age did you start really getting interested in music?/What type of music were you raised on?
I always remember listening to music. As a child my parents played a lot of traditional Ukrainian folk music, and my mother had a particular passion for gypsy music. We also listened to classical, opera, and what is now called "world music."

How often do you attend a concert?
I subscribe to a 5 concert series of new music at my local symphony. Beyond that, occasionally an opera, sometimes chamber music, and 3 or 4 experimental concerts a year.

Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no)
yes

Do you admire the Beatles?
yes

How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it?
4 or 5 times a week

Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years)
as a child and pre-teen my tastes were FAR more conservative... as a young adult I began to listen to experimental music and as I've grown older (I'm 41) I find that the music I enjoy most is that which challenges me.

What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music?
as BoP said, boring and mainstream

Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop?
rock

Who is your favorite musician/band?
too many to list... but a short one would have to include Lou Reed, early Talking Heads, Ornette Coleman, Bill Evans

In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....)
I think there's always been good music around... you just need to seek it out

Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs?
no idea... it's been decades since I've listened to them

Do you play an instrument?/which instrument?
nope
