ELVES
The Mirkwood elves held a great deal of fascination for me. But when I read LOTR 1, I fell in love with Lothlorien. It's strange mysterious, melancholy air connected with me. I loved Galadriel as well, and the Lament for Gandalf. Lothlorien, Hands down.

Okay, I can't really say which I perfer out of those choices, because I love them both! Mirkwood always intrigued me, what with the danger, Legolas, the one of the best parts of the Hobbit, in my opinion, was when they were passing through Mirkwood. I love Thranduil. (I think he's king?) Don't know why.
Now, as for Lothlorien, ohhhh, you've got the beauty, the emotion, Galadriel, I just get so relaxed and in a state of...I don't know, almost zen state when ever I read or see that scene. All in all, they are both wonderful elves.

I like both Mirkwood and Lothlorien. But why are we limited to those two as choices? What about Imladris, and Mithlond? My very favorite of the four is Imladris. I love the description of it in The Hobbit as a place of learning and merriment. As for the time of the war of the ring, Imladris seems a far safer place to be than Lothlorien or Mirkwood, they both have Dol Guldur for a neighbor whereas Imladris has a mountain range between them and Sauron's main strongholds.

I think, Lothlorien was greater (and more beautiful), because Galadriel posessed one of the three elven rings. The Disadvantage of Mirkwood was the very near of Dol Guldur and the power of the Dark Lord.

I can articulate why I like Mithlond and Rivendell; however, I can not articulate why I like Mirkwood and dislike Lorien. This thread was born to assist me with this.

Perhaps you feel Mirkwood, or rather the Woodland Realm, offers just enough Elvish enchantment whilst remaining a little closer to home?

Maybe this it
Here is a why to descibe it. I can see Strider living in Mirkwood whilst King Elessar would relax in Lorien.
Lorien is too glamourous. ( in both meanings of the word) I see it as a place of artsy fartsy wanna-be posers. Just a bunch of Galadriel syncophants. Too much pomp. To use anachronyms: In Lorien they waltz. In Mirkwood they Salsa. In Lorien they eat at five star restaurants. In Mirkwood you have good cook outs. They wear their hair up in Lorien. Their hair is down in Mirkwood. In Lorien they are Upper Middle Class striving to be Upper Class. In Mirkwood they are Middle Class and content. The girls in Lorien are high maintenance and the ones in Mirkwood are low maintenance.

Hmmm, that is an interesting way to look at it. I will agree with you ona few of those points:
In Lorien they waltz. In Mirkwood they Salsa. In Lorien they eat at five star restaurants. In Mirkwood you have good cook outs. They wear their hair up in Lorien. Their hair is down in Mirkwood. Those are all reasons why I can't choose between one or the other. Sometimes you feel like going all fancy and waltzing, and sometimes you just need to let your hair down and salsa.

Mirkwood. Dunno why. Probably because of A-E's reasons. More exciting. You've got to hand it to Thranders though; He's the only one who didn't make a kingdom with a ring. And it was put on the map. Amazing.
EDIT: And A-E, I believe that's g-l-a-m-o-r-o-u-s.

Not that I don't love the TLA, but the magic of Entmoot is lost on me. So, as soon as TLA ends, so will my existance here, probably. Who knows though? I might stay. Highly unlikely however. Lothlorien, Cause i know more about them then Mirkwood and it seems like quite the place to go for friendly people. it seems safe and beautiful. Pluse it would be a real treat to see elves.

C'mon, he spelled it the British way (I think, and no offense to the British, either, I love spelling things with an extra u).
I agree, it is fairly amazing that Thranduil managed to put an elf kingdom on the map without a ring, and manage to survive the Necromancer and it's effects.

AE, I know that Fingolfin is a hero of yours. Which realm do you think he would have prefered had he lived?

who can choose between the two?
In Lóthlorien it would be cool to see stuff and It would also be cool to go to Mirkwood and see more stuff (if you get my meaning; if not it's understandable I'm weird)

Thank you for an intriguing question. I've been a bit trying to think how to answer this. There are a million things that went through my mind. But, the key word was "lived" not ruled. .Then I would say Mirkwood. Eventhough there was a Balrog near Lorien,b eing the valiant type that he was, I think that late TA Mirkwood would offer more feats of heroism with the Dol Guldor, spiders, orcs and other fell things in the wood. I think he would go on a crusade.

I think Mirkwood would be better because you could also visit the dwarves of the lonely Mountain or Men under the rule of dale. I also think that the elves of mirkwood loosened up after the death of smaug and, the battle of the 5 armies which led to improved elf/dwarf/human relations.

Well, lets see. Lothlorien is very beautiful, and Galadriel is wonderful but the elves there are detached from the rest of middle earth.
Mirkwood, hmm wel the only examples of elves from Mirkwood that I have are Legolas and the elves in the hobbits. Legolas is great but the elves in the hobbit are very greedy and vain. i would have to say Lothlorien. {though I am tempted to learn more about Mirkwood.}

Lothlorien. Ever since I first heard of it... its beauty, Galadriel... I've wanted to live there, so I guess I like the Elves from there better as well. It's so beautiful....
