I'll up the count of Tolkien-related names in this thread...
I wanted to choose some kind of Tolkien name since this is a Tolkien board, but I also wanted something short so it wouldn't go into some weird abbreviation, so I chose R*an, which I thought sounded and looked pretty.

When I first started going to Tolkien boards, all the good character names were taken, but I didn't really want a character name because it just seemed like everybody had one. I wanted a name that suited me and yet was kind of book related. So I chose Sister Golden Hair. It is a song (Sister Golden Hair Surprise) by the band "America".

Long road... long road.
I read the book "A Wrinkle in Time" when I was eleven or twelve. There's a method of traveling across time and space called a "Tessaract". It instantly became my favorite word, and I started using it as a screen name--only (horror of horrors!) OTHER PEOPLE LIKED IT TOO! Oh no! What was our intrepid hero to do!? He--ermmm... I stuck a 12 on the end, because that was how old I was. The only hitch came along when I turned 13. Since the Admin weren't too keen on changing the number at the end of my name every year, they suggested I get it changed to "Tess". HAH! So anyways, when I was almost 14, I finally requested that it just be changed to "Tessar". |

I have already told this story somewhere, but here it goes again:
The first board I ever visited was the Jedi Council. TPM had been released and everybody was speaking about midichlorians, so I decided I'd be "Fat midichlorian" there. I thought it was an amusing image that of a very, very big fat midichlorian typing on a computer Some time later I started a Tolkien quiz there and bmilder posted in it a link to his new cool Tolkien board... When I was registering I thought that midichlorians wouldn't fit in Tolkien's world so I "shortened" it to middle (for Middle Earth and also because it made a nick even more absurd than the previous one )

I had just finished reading LotR, came here, Andúril wasn't taken, so I used it. Was originally Anduril. No real thought behind it.

Concerning tesseracts - L'Engle got the name from the four-dimensional equivalent of a cube or square. Thinking outside the box, if you will.
