In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.' 'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin "Oh. Some observations found on
http://www.the-numbers.com/ "Reactions: Lord of the Rings: Return of the King earned 11 nominations, and I expect it to win the majority of those awards. Cold Mountain received 7 nominations, which is still very high given its reviews. I know I've mentioned it before, but at only 75% positive, there were plenty of high profile movies that earned better critical acclaim, yet were shut out of the Oscar nominations. At only 13, Keisha Castle-Hughes became the youngest woman to be nominated for Best Actress for her work in Whale Rider. Again, Paul Giamatti's work in American Splendor was ignored. At least the screenplay was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. Matrix backlash continues as the two final films of the trilogy were shut out from the technical categories."

LotR has already won for Cinematography and Sound Effects Editing, so it's not a huge loss.
I really thought Astin would get nominated. He was the only one with any chance. Still, two other Best Pic nominees are similarly without acting nods, so it's not a special punishment for RotK. Anyway, RotK is the odds-on favorite for Picture and Director, and should take a fair number of the tech awards as well.

I truly hope RotK wins most of those awards it has been nominated for. But P.J. as said, already the fact that the movie got a nomination is a big victory. People liked the films, so they should be awarded, IMO.
Go RotK!
