FotR:
The Prologue. I recall sitting in the cinema, getting goosebumps as Sauron actually appeared on screen and handed out a bashing of note. His size and power blew me away. I'd struggle to think of a better way to open the trilogy. When Gandalf confronts Bilbo about the ring. Again, goosebumps when he grows slightly, the room darkens, and those wood-creaking sound effects. In the back of my mind I knew Gandalf's true origins, and for a moment a slight part of his true majesty was displayed. In the EE, when Frodo and Sam see the wood elves. The singing, music, and special effects made that an awesome, gut-wrenching scene. When Gandalf falls and the remaining Fellowship exit the mountain and the hobbits are crying. Brilliant. When Haldir brings them within sight of Caras Galadhon(sp). "The home of elvendom on Earth". Quite a strong declaration. Great scene. In the TE, when the Fellowship minus one meets Celeborn and Galadriel. In fact, from when they are walking up the tree steps, right until when Galadriel says her "One who has seen THE EYE!!" the combination of lighting, music, and the knowledge of who these elves were, made it a magical scene. They messed up the timing of the music in the EE. When the fellowship are sitting around in Lothlorien, listening to the lament to Gandalf. Twice a very strong note was sung, which, strangely, affected me quite a bit. So I downloaded the Lothlorien mp3. Listening to it now, and still feel it. When Galadriel goes all gay. Goosebumps. Loved that scene. The Argonath. TT: Saruman addressing his army, with a tear running down Grima's cheek. Wow. RotK: Pippin singing. The Witch King flinging his mace at Eowyn. I thought I'd add a scene from RotK:EE to this thread-
The scene right before the Rohirrim ride the last stretch to Minas Tirith, and Merry talks about why he wants to fight. Merry doesn't get a whole lot of good moments (*thinks about him crying "Pippin!" a million times in the palantir scene*), and this was really great.

FotR:
- Boromir talking to Aragorn in Lothlorien. "Have you ever seen...that the Lords of Gondor have returned." Sean Bean is excellent. I hated Boromir in the book but adore him in the movie. - Boromir's death. "I would have followed you...my brother, my captain, my king." TTT: - Sam's speech. Good editing. Astin actually pulls off a speech which lesser thespians would have made sound corny. - Haldir's death. Because I HATE HALDIR AND I HATE THE ELVES AND I HATE THAT THEY WENT TO HELM'S DEEP! GOOD RIDDANCE! RotK: - Merry's simple courage. Not capable of doing great deeds, but can still fight for friends. Sniff. - Denethor and Faramir. Nice emotional music. - Reforging of Narsil and Elrond handing Aragorn Anduril. - The Ride of the Rohirrim. In EE, this is 100% how I imagined it when I read it in the books, up to the sound of the horn. Theoden's speech always brings tears to my eyes. Favorite cinematic moment ever. - Frodo and Sam at Mount Doom. "I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you!" - Frodo writing the book and talking about how do you pick up the threads of a past life etc. I really identify with that.

Voice of Saruman.
This was one of my favourite scenes in the trilogy along with the Aragorn-Boromir ones. I especially like the Saruman-Theoden parts. They were so close to the book and Bernad Hill and Christopher Lee acted it out so well. I thought it could have done with the Rohirrims reaction to Theoden's answer though, but apart from that it was amazing.

All of these were mentioned before, but I have to mention them again:
-Faramir's suicidal ride on Osgiliath (brilliant directing!) -The ride of the Rohirrim (I could watch that scene a 1000 times and it would still give me goosebumps) -When Gandalf comforts Pippin about death in Minas Tirith (I think that whole speech was inspired by Gandalf's name "Olorin" meaning the "giver of dreams" or the "giver of fantasies") One that wasn't mentioned before: -In the Two Towers, when Sam asks Frodo why he's being nice to Gollum, Frodo answers "I have to help him Sam, because I have to believe that he can make it." This here elaborates on the fact that Frodo saw a bit of himself in Gollum. I think it's amazing how PJ could include his personal interpretation of the books in the movies! |

I have one I had really looked forward to see, but it didn't turn out that great. I almost get shivers when I read the line "Saruman..Your Staff is Broken!" it is something with it, I just can't explain. and it didn't turn out quite as good as it could have been. but atleast it was in the film.
you have said them all

Don't think of me as a traitor, I'm not! But I have to admit that the scene where Arwen sees her child in the forest is pretty good. To bad it didn't really happen.

Another good scene:
-After the Ring is destroyed, Frodo leans back on the rock, closes his eyes and exclaims: "I can see the Shire, Sam!" |

I just don't think the real Faramir would go get himself killed in a pointless suicide attack - he'd go get himself killed by attacking Osgiliath cleverly but will too few numbers. Quote:

Very good scene, or rather good music: when all the poeple of Gondor bow to the Hobbits at the end of the movie, they play the Shire music again, but for the first time not with flutes. Can't remember, but it sounds sodramatic and triumphent. Stunning.

Upon revisiting RotK, I'd say the Rohirrim's cry of Death was quite striking. As well as Sam's "but I can carry you!" on Orodruin.
Also, in TTT, Eowyn's singing and Theoden's mourning. |
