The Vatican is practically it own little country. Yes, the Pope is probably one of the most influential people the world over.

The Vatican is, in fact, its own little country. No "practically" about it.

The Pope, however, is not really that influential, or at least he certainly isn't on a big scale. With individuals, maybe, but look at Europe. Society as a whole, certainly, just ignores him.

You pompous ass...

I dont need a silk clad pope or a high domed church to have my relationship with God. He knows my heart as it was He who made me, not the pope or any interpretations of Him, made by men.

Gwaimir, is this one for the operating table?

I'm just kidding...meanwhile, let's talk about this nationality thing...the Pope hasn't been German for awhile until now...

Think of it as poetic syllogism.

The question was directed to BJ, who does not believe in said deity.

So your pope is clogging our city with road closures and clueless people choking the subways...

Any thoughts from the flock as to the holy fathers visit thus far? Sure has raised the sex scandel issue a lot.

Haven't paid that much attention to it, though I do think it was tacky for the White-Housers to sing "Happy Birthday" to him, and I'm not too keen on the Vatican's anthem being played with a 21-gun salute.

Happy Birthday I saw in the light of a charming folk expression.

BUT I was scandalized by Laura Bush.

No head covering, and wore white on the balcony next to the Pope. That woman shamed me, as an American citizen. She looked like a moron, and after GW's behavior last time. Honestly.

A bare head and wearing white is bad manners around the pope? We learn something everyday...

Yes, it's rude. Women should have their head covered and cannot wear white. Some assanine religious rule or another.

Personally I just dont give a fark, but hey some people do. Laura Bush doesn't but hey, this is the land of do whatever-the-****-you-want so it doesn't matter!

If YOU would like to meet the Pope painted blue and call him 'Yo, Dude", more power to you.

Her official JOB, for which the citizens of this country pay all her living expenses, travel, etc., including expensive protocol experts, is to represent our country gracefully.

Looking like Britney Spears is off the list. Or the mother of the bride or whatever she was playin' at. No wonder her girls are such ... embarrassments.

Meh... I'm more insulted that the Catholics stole the idea of the pope wearing white and his visitors wearing dark or black from Zorastrians.

I don't personally care WHAT she does. We're a ****ing embarassment anyways.

If you're a joe/joan bloggs, then I don't suppose it matters how you represent yerself in front of the pope. HOWEVER, if you are in a diplomatic position, then it should be readily apparent that it's good manners when entertaining your guest to undertake their customs. *shrug*
