Favorite Middle-earth lords:
Elf lord - Galadriel as she had seen the light of the 2 trees of Valinor. I also liked that she was Melian's friend in Doriath.
Dwarf lord - Thorin for his bravery in the Battle of the 5 armies.
For the men, Aragorn is the logical choice, but the story of how Theoden regains his pride and honor and fights at Hornburg and Pelennor is truly inspiring. So he gets my vote.

Elvet,
Are you insane?
Thorin was totally wack.
He wouldn't share the gold with the elves...(Legolas was the Elven Kings son if I remeber correctly.)
He was a stubborn mule.
He could teach the rock he was made of to so a Mexican Hat Dance.
He might have been brave in the fight but it is what you do outside of the fight that counts.

Thrain are YOU insane? The thread is about 'favorite' lords not 'best' lords.

My choices reflect how the stories of the characters affected me personally. I also thought that these lords were exlempletory of their races and embodied all the best qualities of their people.

How about the dwarf lord of Nogrod who overthrew Doriath-he got bad press, because he didn't actually do it

all hail the cannon!

I mean come on. I mean he only had the ring for like an hour and he was corrupted but Frodo had it for months ar years and he never was corrupted untill near the end. I personally don't agree with your choice. Aragorn saved the world while Isildur destroyed it almost. Aragorn fought at all the battles, helped destroy the ring brought back the glory of Gondor and married an elf who gave up her mortality for him. Aragorn was soooooooo.... much cooler. And also why name yourself Arathorn if your favorite Human lord is Isildur.
Isildur may not be cool, but without him Sauron might either have ruled middle-earth and Aragorn might not have been born or worse for the story: He would've thrown the ring into Mt Doom and LOTR wouldn't be very interesting with no ring.

Isildur's my favorite now just like Aragorn was my favorite when I registered (the name Aragorn was already taken by: who else, Aragorn ; and I definitely don't have a lithp). I generally focus on a different character because the clean-cut ones I don't find interesting (like Superman). They also make for good Baldur's Gate characters.

Well, I think I agree with olsonm that I thought this was about favorite lords and not best lords. I'll post again if I think of another one.

I agree with Arathorn on this one. Isildur and family kept the faith when the Numenoreans lusted for immortality. He saved the nimloth. Cutting off Sauron's finger is up there with Fingolfin's hacking on Melkor. Was he warned about the corruption of the ring? It seams as though the ring had memory of its bearers. The whole "precious" theme comes to mind. He was the first to wear it other than sauron.

Me too. Maybe that's why I like it though. It's my favorite part of the Sil.

For the elves, my favorite would definitely be Galadriel. For humans, Aragorn. Of course. But I've only read LotR, so I'm sort of limited in what I have to choose from so far. . .
Ooh, I think I'm an elven warrior now!

You still never answered my question of how a hobbit could keep the ring for such a long time but a Kingly man like Isildur couldn't keep it for like a couple of hours

Project, Thrain. Imagine you have just defeated a cruel foe after the loss of comrades, friends, family, and loved ones. You hold the enemy's power in your hand. Your motivation is a pure one; to attain the power to prevent your foe from attacking again. Your blood is still boiling from combat. Do you sit down and rationally think through every possible outcome of your actions, or do you rely on the quick judgement that kept you alive in battle and saved your people from annihilation? He didn't have much time to cool down and think things through as he became an Orc pin cushion.

Cut the man some slack.
