Yeah, My high school theater dept was obsessive about having all the plays we did (like 15 each year) be 'above high school level' Everyone took it seriously. but hey, It worked though, theyve had some really excellent performances.

Obsessive is right. While I don't do anything drama-related (I'm just a groupie) I know from testimony how much work a really good play takes. Also, anyone involved in drama at my school must put up with our drama teacher, who's brilliant, but an insufferable jerk. Sigh.

We had auditions for a school play a few days ago. We just got the news back for who we are going to be in the play. I am going to be Grandmother Perkins. Its going to be sort of different to play a grandma, but it is a lead role so I'm not complaining.

Our school is putting on a musical very soon. This is the first we have done in a very long time. I may see it.

Well my school has school plays, but they suck - sure they are fun to go to. They have your friends and fellow classmates in them and its fun going with friends. But in all honesty, the productions mostly stink.

The actors/actresses in the play all think they can sing...they really can't..... maybe 1 or 2 can sing and the rest can't. And then theres not hearing what they are saying clearly all the time! and just BAD ACTING on the high school level.

The thing that AMAZES me is that everyone thinks that the performances are great. I think this is because most of the students have never seen a good production, so they think that this mediocre/sucky performance is good. I mean I've been to about a dozen plays on broadway and more off, ANd i'm a musician, so know what singing and plays should sound like and what they shouldn't

A couple years ago I saw [b] A funny thing happened on the way to the forum [b] at my school (before I went there) and it was HORRIBLE. Horrible singing and acting - but almost all the students thought it was great. This years productions and last years haven't been to great either - fun to go to because of the people in it and around you though and the funny things they do on stage - probably not doing the play too well though.

I haven't seen any of your schools do a production, so I can't say whether they are good or not, but it is my observation that students think their plays are lke 10X greater than the production actually is (and i have seen some other school's plays, just not yours)

I suppose I am easily amused. ^__^

Also, I know many of the people in it and take Drama with the director. Also also, I may need to see it for an English project. I am babbling. Leaving now. Namaarie, melloneamin.

IronParrot's biggest regret about high school:

That his full IB course load didn't leave him any room to do Musical Theatre.

Our Drama Club is actualy amazing. Last year Synthesis (political minded club, sorta- deals with world/national issues) and Our Drama club put ona production that compiled hte entire school's opinions on the whole September 11 thing. It's acually being published, so...yeah.
We did a play around Christmas- Madwoman of Chaillot (I, even though I was only a freshman, was propsmaster, mistress, whatever- go me!)
Synthesis is doing a play called Bang Bang You're Dead.
and Drama is doing a production of 11 shorts (written by all of us, of course) and I'm Props mistress again.

and, my pride and joy- transcribed J.K.R's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's stone into a play in 6th grade (I loved it so before I found LotR- now I love'em both- but for different reasons anyway- wasted half of my 6th grade classes year beacuse i convinced my teacher to have our class put it on- turned out damn good, too!

so yeah. theatre= veryvervyerveryvery COOL!!!!!!!!!!!

well, enough babbling- ciao!

It seems like every year I am in some sort of production not because I choose to be but because it is a requirment. For example in eight grade every year the eight grade which is the oldest grade in the school does a real production. We did flower Drum Song or what I like to call it Flower Dumb Song. ANyway I had the smallest role. That was because I am stagefright even though I am a very active speaker in class. Through the middle school of corse we also put on our own places. My personal opinion, is that we should leave acting up to the pro's.

Yeah, can't wait to see my mates dressed up as ozians!

I was in the one last year, Dick Turpin. I hit my mate Elise in the middle by accident while doing night-fever, everyone was laughing and her mask fell off!

It was really embarrasiing!
