I'm just crossing my fingers that Elizabeth outlives Charles.

There has been discussion about whether to have William follow immediately after Elizabeth and sort of by-pass Charles - is there any likelyhood of that to happen?

Surely that would require changing the succession laws? It seems unlikely that Parliament will do that. Particularly since, if I understand correctly, the succession laws of all Commonwealth realms, which I would think would get very sticky indeed.

I'm pretty certain Charles could refuse the throne. Or abdicate.
There's a persistent rumour that Charles and Elisabeth agreed that Charles could marry Camilla if he wouldn't succeed Elisabeth.

I agree. After all, his grand-uncle did.
Quote:
There may be changes of the succession laws to have the oldest child inherit regardless of gender, though. Currently a younger brother will take the throne, even if he has an older sister. This would only come into effect for Will and Kate's children. Crown Prince Haakon of Norway has a daughter who will eventually become Queen of Norway. Like Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, she has a younger brother who will remain a Prince and not become King.

My understanding is that there is an issue due to Charles and Camilla not being married in the eyes of the Church, because they are divorcees and therefore not married. This is why they got married in a registry office and not a church.
The head of state is tied up with the head of the Church, because we don't mess about with any of that separation of Church and State nonsense round these parts. So she may never be known as Queen Camilla. Shame, it would have annoyed so many people. |

Kind of funny that over here, (according to rumour of course, because they'll never confirm it) our previous King arranged it so that the royal succession would include female heirs from then on in order to prevent our second prince from ever becoming king. And mostly nobody quite blamed him for that, except maybe the prince in question...

Care to speculate on the likelihood that the Royal Honeymoon plans were changed due to a heads up on the up-coming decapitation of Al-Quaeda and consequent insecurity? It will probably be as productive as the Charles-Camilla succession speculation!

I was on the bus all day when the wedding was actually one, and I just got around to watching it.
She was gorgeous! I loved that dress, and those tiny smiles she couldn't keep off her face while he was saying his vows!

Are they showing it on a re-run? The wedding was on the 29th of April - or they re-marrying already just for good measure?
