But, ha, that's strange, I'm a native german speaker, but don't know how to pronounce Bhaer. But I thought it was quite funny when they had all these german sentences in the english book (I read it in english, although I speak german).

I liked Prof. Bhaer! Such a kind, and learned, man. Out of all the people the girls marry, he's the only decent one imo. A good man for Jo, too.
Didn't really like the book. Plus, the second time I read it -in school- I had bad experiences with it. EDIT: Oh yeah, kinda forgot about the age. I think I'm less disturbed by it than some people. At least he's not sixty. He's what, in his forties? Could be worse.

Are we all talking about the same book? Amy was so the best character in everyway! I loved that book because of her. She was so interesting.

Yes we are talking about the same book.
I hated Amy. She was so arrogant and "useless". A dumb character. But I loved little Beth. She was so kind and her death was soooo damn sad.

All this has got me to wonder how old John Brooke was when he married Meg... Another nice guy, that John.

Ok, Amy was a little so-and-so, but that's what made her interesting. Beth was a bit too wet for my liking.

I completely agree with you Lalaith. I thought Jo should have married Laurie. They seemed so perfect. I was dissappointed at him marrying Amy. I also Prof. Bhaer was a bit old for her. But oh well.
Did anyone read Louisa May Alcott's autobiography. I thought it was interesting that her books were based on her life.

In the books Jo says that the only ones who can pronounce Bhaer right are German speaking people. I am a german speaker but I have no clue how to pronounce it. lol No, I have not read it, but in the book there was a short thext about Alcott and there was written something about here.

Well as Little Women is based on her life, you don't really need to read the autobiography, but I thought it was still interesting to see how her life inspired her to write Little Women.

On the back of the book was written:
Any little Beth discovers peace too at last. I thought she would be happy and not that she was going to die.

Does it? I never noticed. But I never expected her to die, wasn't it so sad . I think I cried.

I read it in english, which means that I don't understand things sometimes or that I can only guess what is going on.
so it took me a little longer to understand it, when Beth told Jo that she is dieing. God was crying. And then when she actually died. Horrible. I cried even more and I couldn't read on because I couldn't see anything anymore.

Where are you from again? Norway? (total guess) I forget
Oh, I know, it was very upsetting Have you seen the movie? The one with Winona Ryder as Jo, Kirsten Dunst as little Amy, and I don't remember who else. I thought it was good. Though of course not as good as the book. It had been a long time since reading the book so I didn't see any changes. I loved Winona Ryder and Kirsten Dunst in it. I think Susan Surrandon (sp?) plays the mom. Anyways, it is one of my favorite movies.

I agree with both Lalaith and Belle. Amy was most definitely an interesting (and rather amusing) character, but she certainly wasn't someone I'd want to live with...
Of course, I almost entirely come from the movies (EXTREMELY especially the old one). I read the book, but remember very little from the movie, except a skating accident that was excluded.

I didn't see the old one, but the skating incident was in the newer one. Where Amy falls in the frozen lake and then Jo and Laurie saves her. I as weel remember very much about the book.

Because it's Classic Literature, and I loved the movie, silly.
I don't remember a first and second part...
