That, I think is more likely.

That's a picture of him after the ring's destruction, is it not?
Incidentally, earlier than the third age Sauron was very much as Coney described him.

Hmm, really? I always thought of him as rather Istarin, only taller, younger, and beardless; but not really broad-shouldered.
Do you have a quote, I hope?

heh... oops.
Actually, I meant Baby-K. She seems to have stolen a copy of Coney's avatar. When sauron came among the elves and men, he had a form that was considered 'fair', which he forever lost when his body was slain when numenor fell. So he most certainly would not have had a sinister or evil-looking form.

Ah, that. Duh. Wasn't thinking of that. -bops self on head-
But I thought that the Second Age ended with the Last Alliance, not the downfall of Numenor? EDIT: Yeah, big mud-wrestling match between Coney and JD. Had a veritable Moot Schism, I tell you. Though JD did have more than twice as many followers.... But Coney had BoP.

Uh, no, don't have anything intelligent to add. Sorry. Like other people here, after he lost his 'fair' form, I envisioned him being some blackened, scorched thing replete with missing middle finger - original, eh? For his fair form, I kinda imagined him bearing an almost elvish light - not based on anything particularly textual, but it's easier for me to envision his walking amongst the elves etc if I imagine him that way. Eh. I'm finished now. |
