After watching movies such as Saving Private Ryan, I think that a period of about 30 minutes of continuous battle could work quite well.

do you think 30 minutes of modern warefare would equate to 45 mins of middle earth orc slaughter - if helms deep lasts 30 mins them pellenor will be about 2 hours worth ! more battles - more blood and guts - more rows of orc necks !

haldri and the elves: Uruk fodder or something else??
i am at a loss as to how Haldir and Co. are introduced into the plot pre H.D.??
I guess haldir and co will kind of be replacing the grey companys arrival albiet before the battle . Other than just showing up they must be playing some kind of role crucial to the plot, perhaps bearing messages for Aragorn?bringing the Banner perhaps or Narsil reforged ( i dont think so he uses the rangers sword at the battle) so what gives any ideas.???? Further reinforcning that premise is that fact that if they are wiped out they must have something better to do than just show up and die. As we know Halbarad the leader of the grey company passes anway in the book at the battle of the Pelennor, Haldir will be doing stepping into that part ofHalbarads role too. tsk tsk poor haldir thats what you get for playing around to much with bow and not practicing your swordsmanship so fellow posters any ideas as to what role these guys play or are they just cannon fodder or should i say uruk fodder?? |

I think that perhaps they will be showing up (lead by Arwen of course ) to bring Aragorn his standard and the reforged shards of Narsil.

Im at a bit of a loss over the elves turning up, other than being sent by Galadriel as some sort of elvish support , doing their bit etc. Something i did read last night though, Legolas' conversation with Gimli, something like " what i wouldnt give for 100 Elvish archers blah blah blah" - I think this needs some serious thought , but it must have something to do with escorting Arwen to meet Aragorn , more suggestions please !!!

Elves from Lorien?
A forty-five battle scene will be awesome, especially since I've seen the snippets from the seige of Helm's Deep.
I must say that elves from Lorien being in this battle is very surprising. Wonder how much of the storyline Mr. Jackson changed to bring the Wood-elves to Anglarond. Perhaps Celeborn wields the bow in the scene? |

more theories .......
now i might be a sapling and all but the lore of LOTR is nothing new to this 20 time reader fanatic.....
anywho....while i think its kinda neat that elves are at helms deep , sa role that may be addressing the quote that legolas said wishing he had some of his "folk" with bows there . why are these elves their otherthan being spear fodder for the uruk hai?? they must be delivering something the Grey Compny ( who seems to be out)a message or items . I think the banner is gonzo so its either a message or Anduril, but Aragaorn is using the ranger sword at the battle or so thats what i see on the battlement during the teaser. And hes leading these elves that clear ther is no Celeborn present. now there seems to be some snippets of scenes with galadriel and Elrond floating around that, were not in the FOTR, not to mention some of arwen and galadriel too. so... does this give us some clues as to what will happens i think....so!! Ok so elrond and galadriel confer methinks that the Aragron reclaiming his role ass heir of Isildur is going to be addressed . I bet Elrond sends help in the form of Elves and they bear a message fopr him to reclaim the thron of Gondor and to show his presence to Sauron via the palantir. (OR they are secnes dealing with arwen becoming mortal and binding her fate with that of Aragron aka luthien/ beren story which insiders know PJ is keen on following.......) but i digress,.... Thus when Denethor's madness via use of the palantir becomes apprerent,he can also whine about Gandalf bringing this upstart ranbger to supplant him, aka the storyline via The ROTK. whatda ya think?? |

ok this is how i have heard and believe the elvs been at helm will play into the film.
The Rivendale elves will move from Rivendale to Lorien for safty this kinda makes sence rivendales not much more than a big house it would be quite easily taken whilst Lorien is a town/city. ne way everyones favorite she elf Arwen start having bad dreams or summet and asks to look in the mirror (i heard people baying for blood allready) and she sees Aragon been surounded by a whole load of orcs and them killing him basically. this aint good stuff so the elvs are sent by gandriel to protect good old aragon from his death. Now this is gonna be awful if it is the case PJ its not to late to change it so that the elves are just sent to u know help out be good neighbours and all we dont need all this complicated stuff its cheasy and wont work.

sween - that sounds logical ina movie / hollywood kind of way and probably not as bad as i was suspecting. We all know there are changes and there have to be changes, so if pj keeps with the ' feel ' of the story and doesnt invent a race of killer sheep to defend aragorn, then I think its acceptable. Remember this is an adaptation not a straight re-teling and we have to trust in pj's vision and love of the book.
